A Flight

1st Jim Bell (16) 38pts

2nd Mike Farhat (12) 34pts

3rd Barry Copestake (15) 31pts

B Flight

1st Peter Henshaw (20) 36pts

2nd James Elphick (26) 35pts

3rd Eddy Bielby (18) 35pts

Due to a two day Korean tournament that was being played at our usual Green Valley Sunday spot, Lewiinski’s were pleased to be offered Silky Oak, especially when we were told that Saturday’s first round took six and a half hours to complete.

Sunday winner Jim Bell with Archie.Sunday winner Jim Bell with Archie.

The course was a little untidy with the fairways a little patchy and the greens a little lumpy but most enjoyed the challenge, none more so than Jimmy ‘AK-47 Bell who posted a best of the day 38 points that was good for the top spot in A Flight.  Jimmy was four clear of Mike Farhat while  Barry ‘the boot’ Copestake rounded out the flight but needed the aid of a count back over the unlucky Pen Caruthers.

In B Flight it was Irishman Peter Henshaw who had but just one point after three holes but turned it round to card a very good even par round that took the top rung of the podium.  A count back was required to sort out the silver and bronze spots between Jimmy’ two shots’ Elphick and Eddy ‘the eagle’ Bielby, both locked on 35 points.  Jimmy somehow managed to edge Eddy for the silver despite having four wipes on his card.

Monday, Dec. 14, Pattana – Stableford

1st Re McKay (14) 37pts

2nd Thierry Petrement (11) 35pts

3rd Roger Emery (13) 35pts

4th Christy Knight (21) 34pts

5th Robert Smith (12) 31pts

A fair sized crowd took to the road to play the Gussan designed Pattana golf course and found the course to be in fine condition.

Scotland’s Buckie boy Reg McKay took it upon is self to show the lads how to tackle this tricky layout by returning a man of the match 37 points.  Nice guy Thierry Petrement and Roger Emery were knotted on 35 points each and when the knot was undone it was Thierry who lifted the silver and Roger the bronze.

The size of the field dictated that two more podium spots were up for grabs and Ireland’s Christy ‘good’ Knight took full advantage and claimed the fourth spot with 34 points.  The calculator was out again as Robert Smith and Nick Townrow were tied on 31 points, with Robert’s back nine adjudged to be more evenly dispersed leaving Nick at sea level and potless.

Wednesday, Dec. 16, Bangpra – Stableford

A Flight

1st Roger Emery (13) 36pts

2nd Michael Jefferys (17) 34pts

3rd Mike Allidi (15) 33pts

B Flight

1st Peter Henshaw (20) 35pts

2nd Thierry Temime (24) 33pts

3rd Gerard Lambert (28) 33pts

Roger Emery continued with his good run of form to outscore the hopeful field of orienteers who battled the lightning fast greens and the Bangpra resident monkeys on this very challenging course.  Roger took the top spot in A Flight and the man of the match honours with a solid even par round and was two strokes clear of Mike ‘the Welsh Dragon’ Jefferys.  Low handicapper Mike Allidi closed the flight on 33 points.

Ireland’s favourite son Peter Henshaw took the laurels in B Flight and needless to say Peter did not need to be shown where the pay window is located.  Thierry Temime took the flight silver with 33 points while Geoff Lambert matched Thierry’s tally but in this case it was only good for the bronze.

Friday, Dec. 18, Crystal Bay A & C – Stableford

1st Gerard Lambert (28) 41pts

2nd Richard Mitchell (18) 40pts

3rd Lou Szigligeti (19) 39pts

Crystal Bay A & C layout was the host to the Lewiinski’s mob for the final game of the week.  The course as always was in exceptional condition with the weather mad hot and high humidity that made life difficult for the players.  Having said that, the scores on the day were excellent and the man of the match was Gerard Lambert as he bettered Wednesday third place finish with a fantastic 41 points.  He needed every one of them however as Richard Mitchell was just a stroke behind and Aussie Lou ‘Zig-zag’ was left to tidy up the flight with a sound 39 points.
