Monday, July 29, Treasure Hill – Stableford

With just a small field today we headed up 331 to Treasure Hill golf course.  Apart from the traffic delays at the Amata and Hemrajh industrial estates, which took four sets of changes to get through, it was a good day out with no rain although it did try for a few minutes.

The course is in great condition with the greens being fast and true.  The rough is a bit brutal though but the fairways are cut nicely to give good lies.  The management has come up with a deal on Thursdays of 1,050 baht incl. caddy, cart and green fee, a bit better than our price Sunday of 1,700 with cart or 1,200 walking.

Anyway back to golf and there were no ‘2’s so the scoring went down to third place which was taken by Brian Maddox with 32 points.  Second went to Owen Walkley with 33 points and first place was claimed by the Capt. with 35 points – his best result in many, many months.

Wednesday, July 31, Green Valley – Stableford

Green Valley is our normal venue for Wednesday and we were off to an early start as there was nobody else there.  With six groups playing there was the normal banter going on at the first tee, with some not making it past the red markers, it was a grand start to the day.

We were lucky we got no rain at all even though it looked like it was going to get us.  The course is in great condition and the greens even though just having been top dressed were running true.

The scores were quite good with most in the 30s, but the winner by a country mile was Steve Compton with a fantastic 43 points.  Coming second was Owen Walkley a distant 5 shots back on 38, third was Roger Ison on 37 points and in forth was Martin Kingswood in a three-way count back over Dennis Pelly and Sell Wegner, all on 36 points.

The only ‘2’ of the day came from Bob Finley.

Friday, August 2,
The Emerald – Stableford

It was certainly John Player’s day today at the Emerald Golf Club, and but for missing a very short putt on the ninth he would have had an amazing 25 points on that nine.

The course was not in its best condition, with fairways still brown from the spraying and the greens had just been cored and sanded so it will probably be a while before we return here.

With five groups playing, everyone got off to an early start and we were back in under four hours.  We welcomed a few Aussie boys today, Andy and Squeaky, plus Willie Dunlop who is back for some leave from Darwin, and Barney Clarkson.

Some scores were good but some could not handle the conditions at all.  However as stated, John Player had the day of his life with 41 points to take first place over the organizer for the day, Greig Ritchie, who scored a very tidy 39 points to take second.  Any other day that would be the winning score.  Coming in third was the other Ritchie, Gary, with 37 points.

There were three 2’s recorded coming from Mark Wood, Gary Ritchie and Wayne Cotterell.

Note:  If you are looking for a game with some friendly golfers, give Bob a call on 082 204 3411 or call into the bar – we are just off Siam Country Club Road looking straight down Lake Mabprachan.
