Monday, April 4, Burapha – Stableford

A Flight

1st James Brackett (8) 37pts

2nd John Cunningham (8) 37pts

3rd Brad Jordison (9) 37pts

B Flight

1st Ivan Plunkett (29) 39pts

2nd Bob Lindborg (26) 39pts

3rd John O’ Keefe (20) 35pts

On the starter’s recommendation we were told that the C & D greens weren’t good, so we played A & B instead.  As it turned out, A & B’s greens were just verticut, and as a result in pretty poor condition with train tracks all over!  Scoring was therefore not as high as we have historically seen on this course.

With a good number of people playing in two divisions, John O’keefe’s 35 points in Div B was good enough to get him on the podium but four points above was Bob Lindborg on a great 39, only to be beaten on count back by Ivan Plunkett.

In the A division, Brad Jordison was third on 37 points, beaten on count back by John Cunningham in second and Jimmy Brackett in first.

There were three ‘2’s, coming from Bob Mcdowell, John Cunningham and Gary Lawson.

Tuesday, April 5, Laem Chabang – Stableford

A Flight

1st Brad Jordison (12) 41pts

2nd Andy Butterworth (12) 36pts

3rd Keith Etherington (11) 34pts

B Flight

1st Bob McDowell (16) 34pts

2nd Dave Atkinson (22) 33pts

3rd Peter Hausberger (23) 31pts

Great to have Laem Chabang back on schedule with us for the duration of the low season!  The course was magnificently presented and in very good condition indeed.  With the caddies here being a cut above the other courses, Laem Chabang does present great value during the low season and we will continue to visit regularly on Tuesdays.

We welcomed several tour groups this week, with Lance Robinson’s group, Vince Starbaum’s group and Simon Wilcock, and judging by the scores, our tourists had a really hard time on this magnificent course, with many not making it to even 20 points.

On the other hand of the scale there were some really good performances in the A division, with Keith Etherington scoring 34 points to take third place on count back.  Andy Butts with 36 points took second but Brad Jordison was head and shoulders above the rest with an amazing 41 points playing from the blue tees on his adjusted handicap of 12.  Even playing on handicap index, Brad would have scored enough points to win the day from the blue tees, so an amazing achievement.

In the B division, where Laem Chabang C course always poses a big challenge for the higher handicappers, Peter Hausberger accumulated enough points to finish in third with only 31 points.  Dave Atkinson was second with 33 points and visitor Bob Mcdowell came good with 34 to win the division.

The only 2 on the day was recorded by Dale Jorgenson.

Wednesday, April 6, Greenwood – Stableford

A Flight

1st Peter LeNoury (14) 40pts

2nd Stephen Mann (14) 40pts

3rd Peter Nixon (11) 38pts

B Flight

1st Andrew Makara (29) 42pts

2nd Eddy Beilby (22) 40pts

3rd John O’ Keefe (21) 33pts

Getting a really good rate on this public holiday, this course presents the best value for money to be had, and we had a pretty full field with a two tee start.  Unfortunately, as we made the turn after 9, the course was pretty backed up with the starter pushing other groups ahead and causing a 20 minute delay and a slow round overall.  On the positive side, the drive up and back to Pattaya was smooth with not a lot of traffic.

John O’Keefe featured for the second time this week in the prizes, coming in third spot today with 33 points in the B division.  Seven points better was Eddy Beilby in second but playing a great round on this difficult course with enough points for overall first was Andy Makara with a great tally of 42 points.

In the A division, the ever present Peter Nixon had another good round of 38 points for third and Stephen Mann scored 40, only to lose on count back to Peter Lenoury on the same handicap but a better back 9.

The par-3s were playing long today, even from the white tees where the shortest was around 155 yards. No wonder then that there were no ‘2’s recorded.

Friday, April 8, St. Andrews – Stableford

A Flight

1st Brad Jordison (10) 40pts

2nd James Brackett (12) 40pts

3rd Stephen Mann (14) 38pts

B Flight

1st Stephen Blazsanyik (22) 39pts

2nd Eddy Beilby (21) 37pts

3rd John Stafford (21) 36pts

Finishing a very busy week, we played St. Andrews since Green Valley was closed for the ladies competition.  It would have been great if St. Andrews was in as good condition as it can be, however they were busy sanding the greens even as we played!  Since we do have St. Andrews on our schedule a few times during the low season, I hope that we will get the course better presented in our next outing in May.

Playing again in 2 divisions, John Stafford got the better of the course with 36 points to finish in third in the B division.  Eddy Beilby, with yet another good finish took second place on 37 points and our B division winner was Waldo with a fantastic 39 points.

In the A division, Stephen Mann made the podium for the second time this week on 38 points and Jimmy Brackett, using his extra shots from the yellow tees, did well to post a great 40 points and come second, only losing on count back on the last couple of holes to Brad Jordison, who continued his good form.

Jimmy Brackett, Kim Danboise and Cottee all scored 2’s.
