1st Bob Finley (14) 41pts
2nd Tony McDonough (15) 41pts
3rd Ken Young (26) 38pts
4th Geoff Stimpson (07) 36pts
5th Brad Jordison (05) 36pts
The eighteen Outbackers at Burapha this week stayed on the slightly preferred A & B nines, once again from the white tees.
Brad Jordison, Geoff Stimpson & Bruce McAdam.
Two very fine scores of 41 points apiece came in from Bob Finley and Tony McDonough, who were split on count back with Bob getting the nod for first place. They were both three clear of Ken Young in third followed home by two in form players, Geoff Stimpson and Brad Jordison both on 36.
The course was reported to be in excellent condition and there were three ‘2’s from Jim Brackett & Dennis Pelly on B3 and Bob Finley on B8.
Tuesday, Sept. 23, Bangpra – Stableford
1st Rick Forrest (22) 30pts
2nd Peter Nixon (12) 30pts
3rd Geoff Stimpson (07) 30pts
4th Sugar Ray Handford (18) 30pts
Welcome back to Aussie visitors John Mills, Paul Kruining, Bob Cannon and Rick Forrest who together with another Aussie visitor, Ray Cody, made up almost half the field of 12 players at the tough Bangpra course. Just how tough can be seen by the scoring, with the best being 30 points as no less than four players returned that score. On count back Rick Forrest won from Peter Nixon, Geoff Stimpson and Sugar Ray.
There were no ‘2’s.
Wednesday, Sept. 24, Laem Chabang – Stableford
1st Brad Jordison (06) 38pts
2nd Mike Missler (06) 35pts
3rd John Mills (20) 34pts
There were 11 playing today at Laem Chabang off the white tees in overcast conditions. It was seemingly perfect weather for golf but no – the humidity was a killer and for most of us our golf umbrellas were required to help us when the sun came out.
Unfortunately, we had to start off C again which seems unfair and is not how the course was designed as many will be aware, the four first holes are very tough and as you haven’t warmed up properly, can often destroy one’s round. The problem has been created by the floodlit B course which always has to be the back nine but A & C is always possible.
Brad Jordison was first today with 38 points and will see his handicap come back to 5. Mike took second with 35 points and visitor John Mills was third on 34.
We only have three more games left playing at this fantastic course in the low season so if you fancy taking on the course then please play before the time runs out as I doubt that we will be playing here in the high season.
There were three ‘2’s from Howard Marson, Brad Jordison and Mike Missler.
Friday, Sept. 26, Green Valley – Stableford
Div A (0–14)
1st Geoff Stimpson (07) 40pts
2nd Peter LeNoury (10) 37pts
3rd Bob Finley (14) 34pts
Div B (15–18)
1st Keith Allen (17) 38pts
2nd John Stafford (16) 35pts
3rd John O’Keefe (17) 33pts
Div C (19+)
1st Suzi Lawton (26) 42pts
2nd Rick Forrest (22) 34pts
3rd Bruce McAdam (26) 33pts
We had a good turn out today with 32 Outbackers playing back on Green Valley. The course was wet underfoot from overnight rain and we employed ‘lift clean and place’ through the green – the balls were often muddy and I think that it was the correct shout for the day.
Geoff Stimpson continued to shine as he recorded another good score, this time 40 points to win Div A and probably ensure a new handicap of 6 for him. He beat course specialists, Peter LeNoury (37) and Bob Finley (34).
Div B went to Keith Allen on 38 points, who has clearly recovered from his wrist injury last month in Hua Hin. Second was John Stafford (35) and third John O’Keefe (33).
Top scorer for the day was Suzi Lawton with 42 points to win Div C. Eight shots back was Rick Forrest in second and Bruce McAdam one further back in third.
There were three ‘2’s from Usman Janjua & Peter LeNoury (8th) and Suzi Lawton (12th).
