PSC Golf from the Growling Swan

Monday, March 23, Plutaluang – Stableford

Twenty seven golfers today faced the challenge to their skill, intestinal fortitude and disseminating perseverance.  Playing the East and South nines from the white tees the greens were found to be very slow despite being cut and provided as much pleasure as sitting through the complete Aussie soap series Home and Away.

In the A grade, Eric ‘The Judge’ Black compiled thirty-six points to relegate Mike Gosden to second place on count back while Gordon Uvanile took third and Frank Riley rounded out the podium.

(L to R) Eric Black, Peter Grey and Allan Sanders.(L to R) Eric Black, Peter Grey and Allan Sanders.

Thursday, March 26, Pattaya C.C. – Monthly Mug

Mine host Peter Grey took great pleasure in announcing that we have a sponsor for the Growling Swan Monthly Mug.  Peter Bass, who has been playing golf with us over the past couple of months, owns and operates Asia Backpackers, so we welcome Peter and his staff at Asia Backpackers and hope we have a long and fruitful relationship. Thanks Pete!

Expectations were high as 32 spritely golfers gathered for the Growling Swan, Monthly Mug event.  The GS hadn’t played Pattaya C.C. since the completion of the luxurious clubhouse and we were keen to enjoy the new facilities and indeed, we weren’t disappointed.

On arrival, everyone was personally welcomed, the check-in was efficient and professional, and post-game the restaurant staff were exceptionally efficient.  The management team are to be complimented and the level of service provided at Pattaya C.C. is second to none in the region.

The golf course has certainly improved gradually over the past year and it was clear that the recent deluge of rain has assisted greatly.  On course, the weather was overcast and coolish, however, as usual, we had performance extremities.  Bill Steinman, Alan Sanders and John Anderson enjoyed resounding wins in their respective grades and the Colonel completed his upcoming farewell in style to win the Monthly Mug.  Eric Black, JC Lhoste and Mark Stapleton continued their rich vein of good form to ensure respective podium finishes.

Niall Stuart was the recipient of the Compass Cap.

The Growling Swan also caters to the bowls enthusiasts.  Bus transport departs the GS on Wednesdays at 10 AM to play at Cocos on undercover synthetic greens and on Sundays at the same time for open grass bowling at The Retreat.  Please contact Paul Rennison on 0843 454005 if you wish to partake.  The cost including return bus transport, bowling fees and a hot lunch is less than 400 baht so great value for a day out.
