Monday, Sept. 8, Rayong Green Valley – Stableford – White tees

1st Mark Wood (7) 37 points

2nd Jack Grindvold (3) 35 points

2nd Anders Pedersen (10) 35 points

If you’re reading this from overseas, this may be a little hard to believe. We have hardly had any rain at all so far in September, the rainiest month in Pattaya. The weather has been pleasantly overcast on many days providing perfect conditions for golf so we have been taking advantage of this most fortunate weather condition and getting out while we can. It’s bound to come sometime soon, but up until now it has been fantastic.

Green Valley got a bit of rain the night before but by the time we got out conditions were just fine.  As usual, the course was in great shape so off we went at our 09:28 tee time for another round of superb golf.

The dandy Scandies were out in full force today with Anders and Jack both at that same magic 35 number on the cards. Today’s win went to TGC regular Mark Wood, no stranger to the podium, as he was the only golfer to best his handicap with a 37. We must also thank Mark for stopping off at the duty free and picking up a 15 year old Penfold’s “Grandfather” Tawny Port that capped off the evenings celebrations! I could really get used to that vintage.

Thursday, Sept. 11, Kabinburi Sports Club – Stableford – Yellow Tees

1st – Ron Robertson (25) 36 points

2nd – Phil Smedley (11) 34 points

2nd – Brendan Cope (28) 34 points

We love going up to play the Kabinburi Sports Club and staying at the Kantary Hotel. The rooms are fantastic and the only complaint is that we don’t get to spend enough time there! After we got checked in and the girls settled in with a quick lunch downstairs, we headed up the 33 for the 12 k drive to the golf course.

We had the course all to ourselves, but there was a local tournament that teed off earlier that morning. Lift, clean and place was on the tee box announcement from Capt. Phil as is the proper system for this time of year. The yellow tees gave us a 6,250 yard test and that was plenty of course for us to handle.

Brendan (playing off 28) had a huge 9th hole as his approach from 150 yards landed 10 inches from the pin, so his tap in birdie scored 5 for 3! The other highlight was on the signature “Crocodile” hole with all that water as we all walked off with everyone scoring pars! Condition of the course was just about perfect, and the bunkers are now really good.

Phil and Brendan had good, consistent rounds of 34 points, but the steady play of Ron Robertson surprised us all as he turned in a 36 point card for the only level handicap of the day.

Back to the Kantary for our traditional wine & cheese poolside party before the buffet dinner and we actually still had the energy to get over across the road to the Sweet Palm Home cowboy bar for a few songs. I guess we can thank little Ally for that one.

Friday, Sept. 12, Kabinburi Sports Club – Stableford – Yellow Tees

1st – Brendan Cope (28) 35 points

2nd – Ron Robertson (25) 34 points

3rd – Terry Dyer (15) 33 points

Day 2 of the Road Trip for September and after a light rain last night, the course beckons us once again. With full tummies from that great breakfast buffet, we were looking forward to another great day of golf back at KSC. Today actually turned out to be a hot one as the clouds burned off halfway through the round and forced our excellent caddies into umbrella duty.

No one shot to their handicap today but the ducks were all lined up as 35, 34 and 33 points were paraded on the podium. Our Kiwi mate Terry Dyer, on a quick trip over from Australia’s Central Coast, now has the moniker “The Sandman” as a dozen shots in the bunkers all were put to within 6 feet (ish) of the pin! Ronnie (R2) had another cracking round with 34 points for second. Today it was the high handicapper Brendan who shot the best with his 35 pointer for a well deserved win. Thanks to all who joined us for another fun time on the road!

The Golf Club is “The Home of Golf in Pattaya” and is located on Soi LK Metro. We broadcast all English Premier League, UFC, NFL, MLB and AFL games live.
