BANGKOK, 9 August 2012 – Kaew Pongprayoon, 49-kilogram-division boxer has qualified for the semi-finals in the Olympic games, while Chanatip Sonkham, taekwondo fighter in the women’s 49-kilogram division has won Thailand a bronze medal.
Kaew, 49-kilogram-division boxer and Thailand’s only medal hope in boxing has lived up the expectations by qualifying for the semi-finals in Olympics after beating Aleksandar Aleksandrov from Bulgaria with a unanimous decision 16-10 after a 3-round fight.
In the semi-finals, Kaew will fight David Ayrapetya of Russia tomorrow at 7.45 pm Thailand’s time.
Meanwhile, Chanatip Sonkham, Thai taekwondo fighter in the 49-kilogram division has won Thailand a bronze medal which is the second London Olympic medal for Thailand. She had a comfortable win by outclassing Elizabeth Zamora Gordillo from Guatemala. The final score was 8 to zero.
58-kilogram division taekwondo fighter Pen-ek Karaket lost to Colombian fighter Oscar Munoz Oviedo during the contest for bronze medal. He lost the bout by 4-6 to the Colombian.
