PSC Bunkers Boys Golf

Monday, May 16, Plutaluang N & W (white tees) – Stableford

1st Mashi Kaneta (15) 32pts

2nd Tony Robbins (15) 31pts

3rd Les Hall (24) 30pts

Near Pins: Tony Robbins (2), Geoff Cox, Stuart Tinkler.

On a beautiful morning 11 players set out to a course we have not played in a while and were very pleased to be welcomed by an affordable green fee for the full package.

The course was looking lush and in good condition although we found that the greens were a bit slow, with many golfers not putting up to the hole.  There were also some complaints about the dogs and their habit of making the bunkers a resting place, which made for impossible shots.  We also had some welcome rain while out on the course but this only delayed us by about fifteen minutes.

Scores very close and Mashi Kaneta and Tony Robbins battled it out all day, with Mashi finally taking the honors with 32 points.  Les Hall crept into third place with 30 points, winning on count-back from Frank Quinlan, Geoff Cox and Stuart Tinkler.

Wednesday, May 18, Greenwood B & C – Stableford

1st Geoff Parker (15) 34pts

2nd Tony Robbins (15) 33pts

Near Pins: Peter Allen

Heavy rain all night that continued through the morning as we left Pattaya reduced numbers and only 8 players made it to Greenwood.  To our surprise the rain cleared and we played a course in terrific condition and in beautiful weather.

Geoff Parker made a welcome return to the winner’s spot with 34 points while there was a three-way tie at 33 points for second, with Tony Robbins edging out Stuart Tinkler and Jimmy Carr on count-back.

This course was in excellent condition and very good value with the current discount package and seems to be one of the few courses that is not suffering from the recent heatwave.

Only one near pin was won, Peter Allen scooping the pool yet again but only by using his driver.

Friday, May 20, Crystal Bay B & C (white tees) – Stableford

1st Neil Carter (14) 36pts

2nd Peter Allen (29) 35pts

Near Pins: Tony Robbins, Peter Allen, Neil Carter.

Heavy overnight rain again deterred people and only 7 golfers made the trip to Crystal Bay on Friday.  However, we enjoyed excellent golfing weather on a course managing the drought very well.  We like this course and the staff are helpful and the renovation of the B course is applauded but we were disappointed to see the lack of attention to the bunkers, with numerous instances of weeds encroaching.

Peter Allen set off like a tornado and with 21 points on the front nine he looked set to finally break that magic 100 score.  However golf bites back and his back nine 14 points for a total of 35 again left him over 100 and being knocked off the top podium spot by Neil Carter with 36.

It is getting near the end of the month and things are getting tight in golfer of the month with only 4 rounds to go and only 7 shots separating 5 players, with Tony Robbins heading Stuart Tinkler by 1 and Neil Carter by 3

Two Bunker boys hosted 14 international visitors at Phoenix on Saturday and it turned out to be a very disappointing experience.  All the tees, blue and white were on the yellow or sometimes red locations for 18 holes.  The marshall said they were resting the tees.  So we had international visitors paying close to THB 4,000 to play the ladies tees!  And to compound the problem all the bunkers had piles of sand in them carefully raked around but no GUR indication.  This group has played at Phoenix for the past 8 years and loved it but this time they were appalled at the redesign of the Lakes nine and have vowed never to play here again.

Note: It was a big week for The Bunker Boys with the Ranch Bar closing and us moving to a new home.  We are now at the M Club which is located 100 metres along Soi 14 off Pattaya 3rd Rd.  We still play every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and we welome new golfers who do not need to book in advance and only need to be at our departure point by 9.30am.  Call mark on 084 758 9907 for details.
