Monday, Dec. 5, The Emerald – Stableford

For this time of the year an almost deserted course and we teed off 20 minutes ahead of schedule with two divisions out and the cut set at 7-16 in the top flight.  Brian Keating won that division with 36 points and was followed by 3 players on 35 points fighting for second.  The resultant count back saw Paul Butler take the silver and Maurice Lots the bronze, while Nik Evans missed out altogether.

Rick Assi was the winner in division 2 with another even par 36 points, two ahead of Paul Young in second place while David Taylor took third after beating Gerry Cooke 11/9 on the back six after they both scored 29 points overall.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Brian Keating (2) and Maurice Lots (2), and (Div 2) Gerry Cooke (2) and Steve Ironside (2).

Dave Horne, Brian Keating and Shane Tutton shared the ‘2’s in division 1 while William Chang, Rod Howett and Paul Young split the rollover pot in division 2.

Wednesday, Dec. 7, Parachit – Stableford

Some people enjoy this course but there were a few moans from others when it was added to this week’s roster, however the numbers playing were still reasonable.

In form Rick Assi topped division 2 standings with 37 points, Paul Young was second on 35 and Rod Howett took third with 34.

Slightly lower scores came in division 1 with Maurice Lots winning on 33 points, Paul Butler second on 31 and Nik Evans beat Dennis Scougall 15/11 on the back nine for third after they both came in with 28 points.

Near pins were claimed today by (Div 1) Paul Butler, Maurice Lots and John Oxley, and (Div 2) Steve Ironside.

Friday, Dec. 9,
Eastern Star – Stableford

Our largest turnout of the week with ten groups out and we teed off into a slight breeze with it being an unbelievable cool round for this time of the year.

Three divisions today with the cut set at 9-14.8, 15.2-18 and 19+, and the best score of the day came from Bill Bertram who won division 1 with 41 points.  Brian Green was second on 39 and Wilf Latham placed third on 36.

Paul Butler was a clear winner in division 2 with 37 points, Gerry Cooke came second on 34 and Walter Weber took third with 33.

In the third division, Les Smith was the top player with 34 points, one up on Geoff Randall in second while Jim Connelly beat Max Wilson 15/13 on the back nine for third spot after they both came in with 32 points.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Bill Bertram, Russell Birtwistle, Brian Green and Brian Keating, and (Div 2) Colin Aspinall, Max Wilson and Don Wright.

Bill Bertram and Michael Healey birdied the 6th and Maurice Lots the 3rd to record the only ‘2’s of the day.

Sadly, just before the presentation, we learned of the passing of Chris Voller.  Chris had been a stalwart and a regular player with Jomtien Golf for more than 10 years and during his recent illness attended every presentation and kept in contact with us.  He will be sadly missed.
