The 17th PSC Annual Club Championship
Welcoming in the new year, our first monthly golf tournament of the year was the 17th Club Championship, played this year at Khao Kheow Golf Club which was in great condition, as most of the courses we play are right now.
A full field of 144 competitors turned out to enjoy 2 great days of golf on January 11 and 14. Unfortunately we had to turn quite a few golfers away as the field filled up very early. The idea of playing a 36-hole course next year is being discussed so we can accommodate a larger field next time.
Men’s and Ladies Annual Club Champions, Patrick Kelly, left, and Ngamjit Emmerson, right, hold their trophies while the PSC Golf Chairman Joe Mooneyham stands center rear.
Blessed with super weather, the A and B courses were the order of business for the 2 day competition and there were quite a few superlative rounds turned in. If by chance, the first day was not your best day out, you had a good chance to make the grade on day 2. We had winners for the first day and winners for the second day – and of course the overall winners which encompassed the two days together. It was a format that was very equitable and enhanced two great days of golf at a great golf course.
Thanks go out again to Joe Mooneyham, the PSC Golf Chairman, Max Matthews, the Club Secretary, Nigel Cannon, the Social Director, and of course Tony Oakes, the PSC Club President for organizing an event enjoyed by so many. Kudos guys, much appreciated!
Patrick Kelly proved to be the strongest golfer over the 2 days to record a fabulous low gross combined score of 143 (70,73) to take the overall Club Champion title and trophy. Ngamjit Emmerson, playing off handcap 20, did likewise to win the Ladies overall title with a combined score of 76 stableford points. Congratulations go to them both.
Gareth Gill (net 138), Geoff Cox (net 137), Ken Bernek (79pts), Tom Breslin (84pts) and Pong Noren (74pts) were the respective 2-day flight winners from divisions A to D and Ladies while the technical prize winners are all listed below.
Friday night after the last round, the players journeyed back to the Diana Garden Resort for the awards ceremony. Poolside under the stars, cold drinks, a delicious buffet and the company of good people – it does not get much better than that! Thanks go to the Diana Garden Resort for all their efforts in making it a great evening.
