PSC Golf from Tropical Golf Group

Tuesday, Feb. 24, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

This morning we had a manageable 6 groups available to dispatch to Mountain Shadow, so off they went.  We seem to have been at Mountain Shadow quite a lot lately and that is really because the players like to go there, it is a testing course but not too testing and they give a good rate to us.  On this day the course seemed to be quite full but we were still off on time and the only dodgy part was the wind that never seemed to go away.

Playing off the white tees most players had a good day out.  The course seemed a bit damp and the greens were a bit in and out, but with the sun shining and the good company we all had a great round.

We were back at BJ’s in reasonable time and got straight into the results.  In the A Flight, 0 to 20, the winner was Brian Parish with 40 points ahead of a count back on 36 points that saw Brian Gabe in second and Alan Sullivan third.  In the B Flight, the winner was Mike O’Brien with 40 points ahead of Tom Cotton in second with 38 and in third was Dave Cooper with 33.

This was also the last Tuesday of the month and the MBMG Group Golfer of the Month award was due to be announced.  With his fine 40 points on the final day Mike O’Brien was deserved winner this month – well done Mike!

Friday, Feb. 27, Pattaya C.C. – Stroke/Monthly Mug

It was the last Friday of the month and that could mean just one thing to the Tropical Golfers – today was stroke play and a chance to win the Monthly Mug.  The venue was once again Pattaya Country Club, and the short drive meant we could have a slightly earlier start time yet not rush through the excellent breakfast at BJ’s Holiday Lodge.  Leaving just an hour before tee time everyone was comfortably at the first tee on time.

First the news that the new clubhouse is finally open, and what a clubhouse it is!  Lockers are generous in size with plenty of room between rows to change comfortably.  Showers are huge and the reported teething pains of not enough hot water solved.  The restaurant has a nice panoramic view of the course.  Speaking of the course, PCC seems to vary each month from Fair to Below Average.  This week saw the course rated a ‘Fair’ or slightly above, with greens in decent shape, if a bit on the slow side.  All in all though, a definite improvement over our visit last month.  Maybe now that the clubhouse is complete and open the course will get more attention.

Well, onto the results.  Even with a 15 minute rain delay, Ken Hole (H/cap 18) would not be denied, and he won this month’s Mug with a net 69.  Congrats to Ken, and we’re sure drinks taste just a little better out of that nice mug!

In the A Flight, 0-16, Colm Mullen (16) won on a count-back over Landis Brooks (8) at net 71, and Mashi Kaneta (12) took third place honors with net 72.

Joel Flor (23) won the B-Flight (17+) with a fine net 70.  He was closely followed by Dave Cooper (23) with a net 71, and Tom Herrington (17) with net 73.

Near Pins:  Max Scott, Maurice Roberts, Landis Brooks, Bob Edwards.

Long Putts: Colm Mullen, Joel Flor.
