The Pattaya Golf Society (IPGC) at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar
The Pattaya Golf Society travelled to the Emerald club in Ban Chang on Monday, 21st November to play a stableford competition on the well presented course. The large field was divided into two flights with the cut coming at 16 and under.
Progress was slow as the course was well populated but patience told in the end for the golfers with Mr Len managing 33 points for third in the second flight, three behind second placed Benny Hansen. The flight winner was Alan Duckett who again performed consistently on the course.
In the top flight Larry Slattery scored 35 points for third whilst “Banjo” Bannister went one better for second. The winner produced the best gross of the day, 77, giving Rob Lamond the best reasons to smile. His 37 points equalled his best efforts with the group all year when he has all too often struggled with his game. But today it was all class.
The only birdie ‘2’ was secured by Chris Walsh on the fifteenth and the Booby Bevy went to an out-of-form Ken Page for his 8-15 split. The driving range is on the agenda next for the smiling Scot!
All shared at Phoenix
The Pattaya Golf Society visited Phoenix for the first time in many a month on Wednesday, 23rd November and played a stableford competition on the Lakes and Ocean Nines. The course was in fine condition with racing fast greens and a large turnout meant two flights cut at seventeen and under.
In the second flight, in true partnership Evan Millar and Orawan Meeraka shared the flight with 33 points with Mr Len coming in third on 30.
In the top flight Ron Mathews took third place with 32 points on his final round this trip whilst Joe Niisato and Dave Milne shared the win with 37 points each. Joe also had the day’s only birdie ‘2’, on the Ocean fifth.
The Booby Bevy went to Evan Millar for managing to score all the points ranging from zero to five on the back nine and still only total sixteen for the Ocean. That must be something of a record surely?
Double up for Lamond
Friday, 25th November, saw the Pattaya Golf Society visit Crystal Bay to play its monthly medal round over the B and C nines which were in very good condition with medium fast greens. The weather was perfect with a fresh breeze blowing all day and the golfers found the Legacy deal was altogether value for money.
The tricky wind made scoring a chore but third place saw a share of the spoils with Jean Morel and Len Jones both posting competent net 75’s. In second with an excellent round again was Wichai Tananusorn; his net 72 was only marred by a double bogey on C3 and a bogey on the relatively easy final hole. The round of the day was produced by Rob Lamond whose gross 75 included twelve pars and a couple of birdies and was a magnificent effort giving him net 69.
The only birdie ‘2’ was recorded by Mr Len on the exquisite par three B6 and the Booby Bevy went to Evan Millar for the second successive event after a wild OB tee shot on C5 meant three off the tee and he proceeded to hole the next shot from 170 yards for a par. Crystal Bay was the perfect way to end the week with the PGS.
