PSC Golf from the Phantom Golf Society
Friday, Dec. 11, Mt. Shadow – Stableford
Once again we combined with Colin’s Golf Bar for the outing to Mountain Shadow which resulted in a very healthy field of 30 golfers ready to accept the challenge. Departing the Phantom Bar right on time at 8.30am we arrived at the golf course 43 minutes later to find it quite busy with other societies also booked in, however we were able to get our first group away 20 minutes ahead of schedule at 9.40am.
The weather was terrific although hot and the course in very good shape and we proceeded at a good pace until we caught up with a slow Japanese 2-ball but they soon sped up after we pointed out their slow play and we managed to complete a very enjoyable round in four hours & five minutes.

We had 2 flights with A Flight being for handicaps 0 to 16 and B Flight for golfers with handicaps of 17 and over and four places in each flight. We also had four nearest the pins on the par threes and longest first putts on hole numbers 9 & 18.
It was tight at the top of A Flight with 2 golfers having 36 points and the resultant count back saw Ed Wyckoff (18 point back nine) declared the winner from your writer Peter ‘Blacky’ Blackburn (17 point back nine) in second spot. Another count back was needed to determine third & fourth places with 2 players on 35 points and that gave Paul Blackshaw (22 point back nine) third place from Robbie Taylor (17 point back nine) in fourth spot.
The B Flight was well won by Larry Gibb who finished with 36 points and there were three golfers on 34 points so another count back was required. The result of this saw Colin ‘Donkey’ Davis (20 point back nine) finish second from Peter Gangur (18 point back nine & 12 points on the last 6 holes) in third place, with Pete Shaw (18 point back nine & 11 points on the last 6 holes) finishing fourth.
