PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar
Monday, April 1, Burapha – Stableford
Thirty-five Outbackers attended Burapha to play the unusual combination of A and C, as B and D are closed for a major tournament in mid April, which starts on the 18th. Usually we play blue markers on A and B and white markers on C and D but because of some long water carries, we had an easier than usual day, using the white markers for both A and C.
The day started off hot and humid with the storm clouds building up all day until the heavens opened in the afternoon, but thankfully by then all groups had finished the course.
Greg LeBlanc.
The starter got us off early and there were only two groups in front of us, which were both two-balls that we never sighted after the first few holes, so we all finished in less than four hours and it’s great to get back to millionaire’s golf and have the course basically to ourselves. Today was the first day of the new low season rates and our thanks go to Burapha for the exceptional rate that is on offer to the Outback on a Monday.
The course was in good condition and the greens were especially quick, but thankfully true to putt on.
The scoring was excellent with the top score being 42pts from Greg LeBlanc, the Div C winner by 9pts; then there were two 41’s from Kissy Buchanan & Rosco, who took the first two places in the very tough B Division, followed by Svenn in third in the same div B, with 39.
A pair of 37’s were enough in the premier division as Ron Dickie got the nod over Rick Sinfield on count back, but Rick had a great round with 73 off the stick.
There were five ‘2’s from Kerry Beck & John Cunningham (on A3), Steve Poznanski & Pete Stonebridge (on A6) and Joe Mooneyham (on C5).
Div A (0-13)
1st Ron Dickie (6) 37pts
2nd Rick Sinfield (2) 37pts

Tuesday, April 2, Khao Kheow – Stableford
There were 12 Outbackers today playing the B & C nines at Khao Kheow off the yellow tees on another very hot day with little or no wind, so hats off to the boys who were brave enough to walk.
Ron Dickie.
The A loop was closed due to sanding of the greens but otherwise the course was in above average condition although in parts it was a little bit brown, but this is only to be expected for this time of year.
Welcome to Gordon Clegg, who was having his first game with the Outback, and well done to Andy Makara who won the day with 35pts. Jon Kittilsen took second with 34 from Chopper, aka Kerry Rothman (33) and Svenn Lund rounded the podium off with 33.
There was just one ‘2’, scored by Suzi.
1st Andy Makara (29) 35pts
2nd Jon Kittilsen (22) 34pts
3rd Kerry Rothman (14) 33pts
4th Svenn Ole Lund (14) 32pts
Wednesday, April 3, Siam Plantation – Stableford
With Tapioca still closed for renovations to the tees and greens, the 22 Outbackers again enjoyed the delights of Pineapple and Sugar Cane and they are both in great condition. The starter got us off on time, starting some groups on Pineapple and the last two groups on Sugar Cane so everybody got back to the clubhouse before the afternoon storms. This was helped by the fact that there were not many others on the course which facilitated another very quick round.
Late entrant John O’Keefe, who switched across from a poorly supported Pattana venue, made the most of his liking for this course to produce a fine 40pts (the day’s top score) to take Div B from Stephen Blazsanyik on 35 and Tim Knight, who held off Sausage & Chopper only on count back, all with 33.
The premier division was won by a rare visitor to this course but Outback regular, Paul Greenaway, with 37pts, beating Siam Plantation member big Steve Poznanski with the same score, and the Capt’ took third place on 36.
There was only one ‘2’ from Chris Davisson
Div A (0-13)
1st Paul Greenaway (10) 37pts
2nd Steve Poznanski (12) 37pts
3rd Stephen Mann (11) 36pts
Div B (14+)
1st John O’Keefe (16) 40pts
2nd Stephen Blazsanyik (17) 35pts
3rd Tim Knight (21) 33pts
Friday, April 5,Green Valley – Stableford
Thirty-five players made the trip to Green Valley on another hot and humid day. The starter got us away on time and we all had a very good round with all players back in the clubhouse in under four hours, which was very good considering the number of walkers and the toll taken on the caddies by the heat.
The course was again in great condition, but you can see a lot of areas that are under stress because of the hot weather. The greens have a lot of growth in them for protection against the hot conditions and that has made them a lot slower but still good to putt on. The bunkers have now settled after having new sand in them and are now a lot more consistent to play out of.
There was some very solid scoring, particularly in Div B, but the best score of the day was in Div C by David Davies who scored a massive 43pts to win by ten from Jon Kittilsen (33) and Tim Knight with 32.
Pete Stonebridge found his game at last ahead of the upcoming Chiang Rai & Chiang Mai trip, where he will be looking for a repeat of the 40pts which he scored today to win Div B. Svenn Lund, who has had series of good results during the last fortnight, was second with 38 from Bob Lindborg and Sugar Ray both on 37.
The premier division went to Art O’Connor with 38 points while John Cunningham was one back in second on 37.
Finally, we say goodbye to Svenn & Jon who are away home this weekend.
There were three ‘2’s from Paul Bourke & John Cunningham (12th) and Paul got another one on the 16th.
Div A (0–13)
1st Art O’Connor (13) 38pts
2nd John Cunningham (6) 37pts
3rd Paul Bourke (11) 35pts
4th Stephen Mann (11) 33pts
Div B (14–18)
1st Pete Stonebridge (18) 40pts
2nd Svenn Ole Lund (14) 38pts
3rd Bob Lindborg (18) 37pts
4th Sugar Ray Handford (18) 37pts
Div C (19+)
1st David Davies (23) 43pts
2nd Jon Kittilsen (22) 33pts
