Sunday, April 10, Green Valley – Monthly Medal

1st Peter LeNoury (12) net 70

2nd Nick Shaw (18) net 70

3rd Eddy Beilby (18) net 71

4th Jim Brackett (8) 73 pts

18 players squared off to contest the April Lewiinski’s monthly medal of 2016 at the traditional Rayong Green Valley.  The course was in much better condition with the new green-keeper getting on very well with fairways and greens.

Medal winner Peter LeNoury (centre) with Jim Brackett (left) and Eddy Beilby.

This suited the inform Peter ‘the right honourable’ LeNoury just fine, although it was well contested to the very end with Peter having to rely on a count back for the win over Nick ‘Elvis’ Shaw, both with a net 70 returns.  The victory qualifies Peter for entry into the Lewiinski’s wall of shame and as with every monthly medal winner, he also qualifies him for the year end Gold Medal competition held after the December winner is determined.

Eddy ‘the eagle’ Beilby returned a net 71 for the bronze and it should be noted that Eddy had a triple bogie on the 13th par four.  The fourth podium spot was determined by a count back between Jimmy ‘AK-47 Bell and Jimmy Brackett, both tied on net 73 and when the divots had settled it was Mr. Brackett who got to stand on the fourth podium step, leaving Jim Bell at sea level and pot less.

Mick Beresford.

Every medal – stroke competition is replete with sad stories of what could have been but surely none sadder than Mickey ‘Bubba’ Beresford’s gag on the 14th par 5, as he took ten stokes and missed the podium by one shot.

Back at Lewiinski’s and after the presentation, Peter shared his bottle of Jameson’s Irish whisky with his friends.

Monday, April 11, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

1st Kevin McEntee (9) 35pts

2nd Gerard Lambert (23) 35pts

3rd Mark Riley (18) 35pts

With a large group of society members heading off to the hills to escape the madness of Songkran, it was a small yet intrepid lot that traveled to tackle the very tough Mountain Shadow.  The weather was sweltering hot and very humid, which made life difficult for the players, as the scores would indicate.

Three players all posted 35 points and winning the three-way count back was the County Offaly gang ring leader Kevin McEntee.  Gerard Lambert had to settle for the silver as Mark Riley was left to close the day’s podium.

Wednesday, April 13, Treasure Hill – Stableford

1st Tom Gorey (19) 38pts

2nd Robert Smith (11) 36pts

3rd Mick Beresford (19) 36pts

4th Thierry Petrement (11) 35pts

I don’t know whether everybody would agree, but Treasure Hill is one of the toughest courses in the area.  The course was found to be in excellent condition today with well maintained fairways and fast but true greens.  The weather was mad hot and very humid making life tough for the players.

Only one man managed to better his handicap, that being Co. Killkeny’s Tom ‘the Irish rover’ Gorey who posted a man of the match 38 points.  Two players had even par returns – Robert Smith and Mickey ‘Bubba’ Beresford – with the former coming out of the count back on top.  A count back was also required to sort out the final podium spot between Thierry Petrement and Jimmy ‘two shots’ Elphick; the count back favouring Thierry and leaving Jimmy you know where and pot less.
