Monday, Dec. 18, Greenwood A & B (white tees) – Stableford
CSS 73
Division 1 (0-15)
1st Simon Kendall (13) 35pts
2nd Adrian Cook (11) 34pts
3rd Brian Kinsella (15) 33pts
4th Jon Batty (6) 30pts
Division 2 (16+)
1st Chris Ross (27) 38pts
2nd Dave LeHane (18) 35pts
3rd Tom McCarthy (22) 31pts
4th Markku Tynell (24) 30pts
A good turnout for the always popular Greenwood course required two divisions, cut as usual at 15 and below for the first division. The course was in good condition although the fairly strong and cool wind affected most of the player’s scores.
Simon Kendall won his first event with the group with a solid one over handicap return, winning by a single point ahead of Adrian Cook, with Brian Kinsella another point behind in third and Jon Batty, having a bit of an off day, in fourth.
The second division was led in also for the first time by Chris Ross who also had the best points score of the day. Dave LeHane placed second another four shots in front of third placed Tom McCarthy who in turn was one ahead of fourth man Markku Tynell.
There were no 2s in the second division but Jon Batty and Fred Land shared the first division pool.
Wednesday, Dec. 20, Khao Kheow B & C (yellow tees) – Stableford
CSS 73
1st Mark Cooper (11) 35pts
2nd Simon Kendall (13) 34pts
3rd Allan Hanlon (13) 32pts
4th Phil Stevenson (24) 30pts
5th Brian Lewis (31) 30pts
6th David Dines (9) 30pts
Surprisingly the lowest numbers in the week were for the trip to Khao Kheow which will be hosting the IPGC Championship at the end of January and just the one division was required.
The course was in very good condition and is getting steadily better, with the greens meriting a special mention being very true and flat.
Mark Cooper withstood the wind battering the best to return a score that was one over his handicap but one below the CSS for the day, having just failed to match his outward half of 18 points coming home.
Simon Kendall was in good form once again but had to be satisfied with a second place on this occasion just one point behind the winner.
Allan Hanlon returned a good card with an even 16 points a side without a zero for third place. He was followed in by Phil Stevenson who won a three-way count back for fourth place with 16 ahead of fifth placed Brian Lewis who scored 9 on the back six, which left David Dines in sixth with 8 on the back six after they had tied the back nine on 14 each.
There were no 2s in either of the divisions.
Friday, Dec. 22, Pattaya C.C. (white tees) – Stableford
CSS 74
Division 1(0-15)
1st Graham Marchant (15) 33pts
2nd Kevin Blake (8) 32pts
3rd Adrian Cook (11) 32pts
4th Dave Edwards (12) 31pts
5th Peter Skinner (11) 31pts
Division 2 (16+)
1st Brian Lewis (31) 35pts
2nd Phil Stevenson (23) 34pts
3rd Markku Tynell (24) 31pts
4th Murray Edwards (19) 31pts
5th John O’Sullivan (21) 30pts
Graham Marchant putted like a pro today to secure his first win with the group and become the third first time winner in the week. He won the first division by the slimmest of margins to edge playing partner Kevin Blake, who did enough to win a count-back for second place over Adrian Cook with a better 9 to n8 over the last six. Dave Edwards then won another count-back over Peter Skinner for fourth with a better 14 to 13.
The second division was won by Brian Lewis as he became another first time winner with the group after a wonderful day on the course. Phil Stevenson had to settle for second place, also being one of Brian’s playing partners, and unable to take advantage of an opening near the end when the winner dropped a few shots through the closing holes. Markku Tynell placed third ahead of Murray Edwards in fourth and John O’Sullivan in fifth.
Adrian Cook and Andrew Purdie shared the first division 2s pool whilst Hal Hart celebrated after cleaning out the triple rollover pot in the second division.
