Monday, May 16, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford

1st Andy Makara (26) 37pts

2nd Brian Carr (25) 36pts

3rd Phil Smedley (16) 33pts

Green Valley on the cards again and the course has improved greatly since a couple of months ago.  The weather is also getting to be reasonable with a bit of rain cooling things down finally.  Today it was the darksiders who took control of the podium save for one certain TGC Captain creeping into third spot.

Yep, Phil is in there again and seems to be returning to form.  Smedley’s 33-pointer got him to the third slot.  Brian Carr defected to points beyond Sukhumvit 3 months back so unfortunately we don’t see him back in the bar too often.  Brian had a solid 36 for second with a well-managed round of golf.

Andy Makara is a long standing Monday guy and knows this course well.  He is no stranger to the podium and today shows the lads how to play this course, racking up 37 points in the process.

Darren Stanton claimed the near pin and made the 15-footer for the birdie!

Tuesday, May 17, Laem Chabang (white tees) – Stableford

1st Ian Brimble (6) 36pts

2nd Kenny Aihara (5) 30pts

3rd Peter Thomas (17) 29pts

A full sheet of 20 golfers got off right on time and the round was complete in just over 4 hours.  Peter Thomas has been absent from the leaderboard for far too long so good to see Pete get in there with just 29 on the card.  Kenny seemed absolutely astonished when he found out his 30 was getting him into the second spot.  It must have been a tough time out there!

Top of the pile we found Mr. Ian Brimble all alone with a 36 on the card that blew away the rest by a full 6 shots!  Great round Ian, see you back here sometime in October.

Our Caddy Smile near pin today went to Stuart Evans, who had a great tee shot but could only walk off with a par.

Thursday, May 19, Pattavia Century (white tees) – Stableford

1st Stuart Evans (22) 38pts

T2nd Mark Wood (7) 35pts

T2nd Steve Ellison (20) 35pts

It takes us a good hour to get out to Pattavia but we all agree it is worth it.  Not just for the value, but for the quality of the course as well.  It was in great shape and all the guys reported how enjoyable the layout was.  Actually, I can’t think of one “dumb” hole out here!  Nick Faldo signed off on this layout although he never actually made it out here.  When you win a Masters and an Open, the offers pour in!

The course was in very good nick but playing was as difficult as always with these greens.  Their condition was fine but they remain some of the trickiest square metres of land in Chonburi province.  That’s one of the things that keeps bringing us back here, it is a real test of your putting skills so when you find several three-putt greens on the card, get over it.  You will not be alone!

Stuart Evans stole the show today and a 38 would be very hard to come by, so well played to him.  Mark and I did battle (unknowingly) for 2nd and 3rd but ended in a tie as I somehow had pars on the last 3 holes, with even a near pin on that long 17th.  OK, it was a sloppy shot, but guess what… I’ll take it!  The Scotsman was solid as usual but had a few putts come up short.
