The Pattaya Wushu Club took first overall at the Pattaya Wushu Competition held recently at Pattaya School No. 7.
The local Chinese martial arts squad bested 10 other wushu clubs from Lamphun to Chanthaburi, Bangkok to Surin in the Aug. 8 competition, winning 14 gold medals, three silver and six bronze.
The Satriwittaya-Singha Club took second overall with one gold, 14 silver and six bronze medals while the Surin Wushu Club placed third with six gold, three silver and five bronze medallions.
Flying kicks, acrobatics and skillful sword play were in evidence at the Pattaya Wushu Competition which took place at Pattaya School No. 7 earlier this month.
The competition was divided into men’s and women’s singles and team brackets.
Wushu, a full-contact form of martial arts similar to kung fu, includes both bare-handed and weapons fighting. Individual contests at the Pattaya meet, therefore, included individual routines, sparring, short weapons, long weapons and Taiji.
Thipchaya Pungchanchaikul, president of the Pattaya Wushu Club, said the event offered a chance for Pattaya martial artists to show off their expertise and also help boost tourism.
