A group of teachers from The Regent’s School, Pattaya are running from the Pacific Ocean to Indian Ocean to raise money for the Baan Leam Tong School being rebuilt on Koh Phi Phi after the Tsunami of 2004. The Regent’s School has been heavily involved with this project and hopes that the money raised will help it in its final stages.
Eight energetic teachers will travel to Hat Yai this weekend to compete in this year’s Ocean to Ocean Relay Race on 11th December. The gruelling relay race starts at sunrise on the Pacific Ocean coast and finishes on the Indian Ocean coast 140 km later.
The Regents Runners team take time out from training to pose for a group photo.
The team are hoping to raise funds by holding a competition to guess their finishing time. Guesses cost just B100 each and the closest guess will win a brand new silver 8GB iPod Nano. Guesses can be bought at the Regent’s School’s Christmas Bazaar on the evenings of 7th to 10th December. Donations would also be gratefully received by the enthusiastic team. All the funds raised will support the school rebuilding work on Koh Phi Phi.
The team called Regents Runners is currently training hard for the event and looking forward to the marathon relay. Nathaniel Mulford, the team leader, said of the challenge: “I have chosen to support the Baan Leam Tong School by running in the 6th Ocean to Ocean Relay Run on the 11th December because as a teacher I wanted to raise funds for educational causes in Thailand. I’m hoping that we can raise funds to provide materials and other essential supplies that will help finish the project and provide this essential educational facility on Phi Phi.”
