IPGC Golf from the Tara Court
Sunday, Jan. 1, Green Valley – Stableford
1st Paul Pavloff (5) 35pts
2nd Nick Caulfield (6) 34pts
3rd Peter Henshaw (23) 34pts
4th Nick Looby (14) 30pts
5th Pat Carty (28) 30pts
6th Kevin Blake (7) 30pts
We had our first game of 2017 here at our usual Sunday venue, Green Valley, and had a much smaller group than normal as many of our friends were recovering from the New Year celebrations. Some of the ones who did come out to play should probably have stayed at home also as from the scores they put in it showed that they were also suffering the effects of the previous night.
It was also our first round on the new layout here and we will reserve judgment on it for a few weeks.
Our first winner for 2017 was Paul Pavloff with a score of thirty five points while Nick Caulfield took second place with thirty four and Nick beat Peter Henshaw to third place on count back. We then had three players on thirty points with Nick Looby taking fourth place on count back from Pat Carty in fifth and Kevin Blake sixth.
We had no ‘2’s today.
Tuesday, Jan. 3, Treasure Hill – Stableford
A Flight
1st Nick Looby (14) 34pts
2nd Nick Caulfield (6) 32pts
3rd Joe McArdle (14) 31pts
B Flight
1st Michael Williams (15) 38pts
2nd Sean Hallahan (22) 32pts
3rd Russell Gilroy (18) 28pts
2’s: Nick Caulfield, Sean Hallahan, Evelyn McNamara (2).
Our game here at Treasure Hill on Tuesday was shared with our friends from the PFGS. We had an earlier start than usual and the course was busy. A little bit slower also as we had a few five and six-balls out in front of us but we still got round in less than four and a half hours, which for this time of year is not too bad.
We had a new winner today and for the first time in a long time it wasn’t Treasure Hill. Michael Williams made this very difficult course look easy and came out a very clear winner of the B Flight with a best score of the day thirty eight points.
Sean Hallahan has just arrived from Ireland and was certainly not suffering from jet lag as he came second with thirty two points, and to make it even better he also had a ‘2’. Russell Gilroy got third place on a count back with twenty eight points ahead of Evelyn McNamara, the latter having the consolation of recording a pair ‘2’s.
In the A Flight, Nick Looby took the win with thirty four points, Nick Caulfield came second two points behind and Joe McArdle got the third spot with thirty one points.
Thursday, Jan. 5, Khao Kheow – Stableford
Yellow Tees

2nd Michael Williams (15) 36pts
3rd Phelim Moran (11) 35pts
4th Lyle Blaw (11) 34pts

1st Angela Montague (31) 37pts
2nd John Kelly (26) 36pts
3rd Frank McGowan (19) 36pts
4th Sean Hallahan (23) 34pts
2’s: (yellow tees) Phelim Moran, Lyle Blaw, Michael Williams and Nick Looby, (white tees) Sean Hallahan and Joe Peters.
We were back at Khao Kheow today where some of our group were having a practice run for the IPGC Championship at the end of the month and as usual it was in magnificent condition. Today we played the A and C nines and again we gave everyone a choice of tees, with fifteen opting for the longer yellow markers and thirteen on the shorter whites.
Although this course is much more difficult off the yellow tees we still had what were by far the best scores from this group. Nick Looby took a while to get his golf going on this trip but he followed up Tuesday’s win with victory here today with an exceptional score of forty three points off the yellows. In second place was Michael Williams with an even par round, Phelim Moran came third with thirty five points and we then had three players on thirty four, Lyle Blaw edging the count back to take the fourth place ahead of Paul Smith and Russell Gilroy.
Angela Montague has just arrived from Ireland and quickly made her mark by winning the white tee flight with an excellent thirty seven points. John Kelly came second with thirty six points and John beat Frank McGowan on count back for third place with Sean Hallahan again making the podium as he came fourth.
