Thirty-nine points was the winning score in both B and C Flights as William Peach and Aussie Lou ‘Zigzag’ held sway.  Bill’s B Flight winning score was two clear of crowd favourite Mickey ‘nine holes’ Beresford while Terry ‘pork chop’ Mangan made his first podium appearance this trip with 34 points.

Lou’s co-man of the match performance took the laurels in C Flight as Eddy ‘the Eagle’ Beilby followed himup the podium steps to receive the silver and Bruce Walters rounded out the flight with 33 points.

(L-R): William Peach, Lou Szigligeti and Christian Boysen.(L-R): William Peach, Lou Szigligeti and Christian Boysen.

Christian Boysen was top in A Flight courtesy of Rick Morgan not being a member of the PSC (Am I missing something here?)  Christian was not too concerned however as this gave him the top spot.  A count back was required to sort out the minor places between Peter ‘the right honourable’ LeNoury and Peter Kelly, with the former’s luck holding up for the silver.

Eddy Beilby and Chris Reed shared the 2’s pot with Rick.

Monday, Dec. 8, Khao Kheow C & A – Stableford

A Flight

1st Ed Wyckoff (12) 37pts

2nd Thierry Petrement (11) 36pts

3rd Freddy Starbeck (12) 36pts

B Flight

1st Peter Henshaw (20) 35pts

2nd Lou Szigligeti (19) 34pts

3rd Peter Wallace (18) 33pts

To start the week out right the society decided to take on the formidable Khao Kheow C & B layouts.  A Flight seemed to weather the ride better than their B Flight compatriots as Ed ‘our man in the white house’ Wyckoff was the man of the match and was the only player to better his handicap.

Ed’s 37 points was one better than the pair of Thierry Petrement and Freddy ‘the quite one’ Starbeck; Thierry slid in for the silver while Freddy was explaining his round to everyone.

Old friend Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw struck gold in B Flight with a steady 35 points and he was trialed in by Lou ‘Zigzag’ and Peter Wallace in one shot increments and in that order.

Christian Boysen, Peter LeNoury, Ed Wyckoff, Freddy Starbeck and that fine Scottish player Lawrie McBride shared the ‘2’s pot.

B Flight

1st Walter Baechli (16) 39pts

C Flight

1stMicheal Bangert (16) 37pts

2nd Lou Szigligeti (19) 37pts

3rd Chris Reed (19) 36pts

It is often said that nice guys finish last (i.e. Thierry Petrement), however, in this case, one of the nicest and most effervescent personalities came first.  Walter Baechli, who usually appears as appropriately dressed for a cross-country ski outing as he does for golf, was the top player in B Flight with a sparkling 39 points and was man of the match.  Sunday’s A Flight winner Christian Boysen took the flight silver two strokes off the pace while Oggier Gaston rounded out the flight on 35 points.

Freddy ‘you know who’ was the star attraction in A Flight with a sound 37 points.  Freddy was followed in closely by Roger Emery a shot back and the bronze spot was settled by a count back with Colin Smith edging Thierry ‘the nice guy’ Petrement off the podium steps, both tied on 34 points.

Skipping down to C Flight saw two players on 37 points, Michael Bangert and Lou ‘Zigzag’.  The count back dictated that Lou received the silver and Michael the bronze.  Hats off to Lou as this was his third podium place in as many games!  Chris Reed closed the flight with a sound even par round.

Colin Davis and Roger Emery split a healthy 2’s pot

Friday, Dec. 12, Pattavia – Stableford

A Flight

1st Freddy Starbeck (12) 34pts

2nd Rick Morgan (8) 33pts

3rd John Lagdon (5) 32pts

B Flight

1st Gebi Kindle (16) 34pts

2nd Colin Davis (16) 31pts

3rd Christian Boysen (13) 29pts

C Flight

1st Peter Henshaw (20) 36pts

2nd Christy Knight (23) 34pts

3rd Chris Reed (19) 34pts

The week wrapped up with a visit to the well-maintained Pattavia just down the road from Treasure Hill for Friday’s bash.  This is another diamond in the rough as well as being one of the cheapest golf venues on the Eastern Seaboard.  Some of the views are breathtaking, especially if you happen to be standing in a bunker and it is your shot next.  At least it can make one gasp a little.  But that aside, the course is playing exceptionally well, with very good fairways and fairly fast greens.

Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw continued his good run of form as and took the top spot in C Flight and he was the only player to play to his handicap.  Peter was two clear of fellow Irishman Christy ‘good’ Knight, Chris Reed, Silvano Pizzato, Bruce Berlin and the title boy Lou ‘Zigzag’; when the divots had settled it the luck of the Irish as Christy picked up the silver and Chris the bronze.  The three remaining players were left potless at sea level.

In A Flight it was Freddy ‘the quite one’ Star beck who took the honours with 34 points.  Rick Morgan held the silver a stroke back and the bronze spot was sorted out by a count back as John Lagdon and Aussie star Max Scot were tied on 32 points, with the former getting to stand on the podium as Max was left with the same fate as his mates in C Flight.

Gebi Kindle ruled B Flight on 34 points, three clear of Bruce Berlin.  Christian Boysen was glad to see any part of the podium with his 29 point effort.

There were eight ‘2’s recorded on the day.
