One of Thailand’s biggest sporting events reaches its climax this weekend when the golf stars of the LPGA contest the 1.5 million dollar purse at the 2015 Honda LPGA Thailand golf tournament, taking place at Siam Country Club ‘Old Course’ from Feb. 26 – March 1.

Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist is back to defend her title against a star packed field that includes former champions, Inbee Park, Ai Miyazato, Suzann Pettersen and Yani Tseng, plus world leading players such as Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, Shanshan Feng, Michelle Wie, Lexi Thompson and Jessica Korda.

The main home challenge will come from the Jutanugarn sisters – Ariya and Moriya – plus the always colourful Pornanong Phatlum.

Unfortunate news for local golf fans is the withdrawal from the tournament of new world No. 1 player Lydia Ko of New Zealand, who will miss the event due to a commitment to play in the New Zealand Open on the Ladies European Tour.  Ko won the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open in Melbourne last weekend.

This week’s event is the midway point of a three-week international stretch for the LPGA, following the Australian Women’s Open and setting up the HSBC Women’s Champions in Singapore.  It will carry the Tour schedule into March and offer another 500 points in the Race for the CME Globe.

With no halfway tournament cut, all the big names will be in action over the weekend and tickets can be bought at the course at the following prices: 300 baht for Thursday & Friday, 400 baht for Saturday and 500 baht for Sunday.  A 4-day pass can be bought for 800 baht.  Spectators who are 18 years old or under and 60 years or over can gain free admission to the event.
