PSC Golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, May 25, Burapha C & D – Stableford

With A and B still closed for renovation we played C and D again in pleasant conditions thanks to a cool breeze.  The fairways were freshly mown and the rough which had just been cut was OK but brutal in places.

Pete Stonebridge was the winner with 38 points from Kim Danboise (37).  Mick Jones was third on c/b from Pete Sumner, both with 35 points and Bob Lindborg took fifth on 32.

Friday winner Andy Makara (left) is congratulated by Andre Coetzee.

There was a booking mix-up at the check-in so Pete Sumner and Chris Voller ending up joining us and welcome back to Peter Frost, a good friend of Rob Barnes.

Rob Barnes & Ivan Plunkett (C5) and Bob Finley (C8) all had ‘2’s.

Outback opinion: Weather – pleasant; Check in – friendly as always; Tee time – early; Fairways – good; Rough – varied; Greens – average; Bunkers – raked; Value for money – good; Pace of play – 4hrs; Drink stations open – all open; Restaurant – not visited.

1st Pete Stonebridge (18) 38pts

2nd Kim Danboise (12) 37pts

3rd Mick Jones (17) 35pts

4th Pete Sumner (06) 35pts

5th Bob Lindborg (26) 34pts

Friday, May 29, Green Valley – Stableford

It was a pleasant day at Green Valley – sunny, but not too hot, not too humid with a slight breeze; an enjoyable day overall for our five groups.

Play was brisk, with six competitors scoring equal or better than handicap.  A couple of us tried the blue tees, a first for me, and I finally found appreciation for Green Valley.  The course looks and plays completely different and is genuinely a lot more picturesque, probably the way the designer intended; not for the faint hearted though unless you are a decent striker of the ball.  Come and join us at the Outback as our EGA handicap system makes it possible to compete fairly in the same competition from different tees to suit all players’ preferences.

Highlights of the day were Sugar Ray’s win over old foe Eddy Beilby, Andre’s 36 points getting third place in Division 1 from the difficult blues, and Andy Makara’s ‘2’ on the 8th hole plus of course his brilliant winning score of 42 in Division 2.

JP Maffray (left) with Pat Regan.

Winner of Division 1 was Pat Regan, beating J.P. Maffray on a count-back, both with 37 points.  Brendan Cope, having returned from six weeks work in deep Africa, came second in Division 2 with a great 39 and will no doubt enjoy his new lower handicap, and finally Bob Lindborg made the podium again with a great 38 points to finish third in Division 2.

Division 1

1st Pat Regan (12) 37pts

2nd Jean P Maffray (11) 37pts

3rd Andre Coetzee (09) 36pts

Division 2

1st Andy Makara (28) 42pts

2nd Brendan Cope (28) 39pts

3rd Bob Lindborg (26) 38pts
