PSC Golf from The Outback Golf Bar
Monday, Nov. 30, Burapha A & B – Stableford
1st Sugar Ray Handford (19) 39pts
2nd Geoff Stimpson (08) 37pts
3rd Adrian Ollerton (15) 36pts
This was another good day out at Burapha with no complaints to be had. The course was reasonably quiet, we got off to an early start and with a good pace of play everyone finished within the 4 hour mark.
(L to R) Steve Plant with Tom Byrne, Yurte Murakami and John Stafford.
Both Adrian and Simon finished on 36 points apiece but in the end it was Adrian who walked away with 3rd prize on count back. Geoff Stimpson, who just can’t get himself to hack around like the rest of us, finished again in second spot with 37 points but regular Outbacker Sugar Ray Handford outpaced the rest of the field on this, one of his favorite courses, with a great 39 points.
Geoff and Sugar both registered ‘2’s on hole 12.
Wednesday, Dec. 2, Bangpra – Stableford
1st Andy Makara (27) 41pts
2nd Stephen Mann (11) 38pts
3rd Greg Braemer (31) 34pts
It was a busy and early start with us teeing off just after 8.30 a.m. and the course was already jam-packed with Japanese and Asian golfers. Welcome to high season I guess. On the plus side, it is good to see that golf courses are getting busy again.
The pace of play was still on the mark, with all groups finishing within the 4.30 mark. The greens were not too fast, but just good by Bangpra standards.
Three players finished on 34 points today, with Greg Braemer taking third on count back from Mike Omiya and Chris Thompson. In second spot, Stephen Mann came in with a great 38 points but even that wasn’t enough to keep Andy Makara, playing off 27, at bay with an awesome 41 points. A real achievement at Bangpra and well done Andy!
There were no ‘2’s recorded on this day.
Friday, Dec. 4, Green Valley – Stableford
A Flight
1st Tom Byrne 38pts
2nd Steve Plant 35pts
3rd Andre Coetzee 34pts
B Flight
1st Yurte Murakami 39pts
2nd John Stafford 39pts
3rd Sugar Ray Handford 37pts
A couple of us decided to have a go at Green Valley from the blues, together with Mathias Hermann, a young man with a fabulous swing. Our third playing partner, Brendan Cope, also played from the blues and boy, was it a challenge! The blue tees seemed miles back from the whites, in many cases as far as 60 yards.
The course played good today, with some help from the preferred lies due to the previous evening’s rain.
Playing in two divisions today, Sugar Ray again made the podium on count back with 37 points, while above him John Stafford lost on count back for first place to Yurte Murakami, both on 39 points.
In division 1, Andre Coetzee, playing from the blue tees, just managed to pip Mathias Hermann for third place on count back. Steve Plant, returning to play golf with us finished at 35 points to take second place, with Tom Byrne winning the division with a fabulous 38-pointer.
There were four ‘2’s recorded today, by Bob Finley, Andy Makara, Sunanta Cotterell and Wayne Cotterell.
