Some 3,500 international athletes will compete for the Prime Minister’s Cup when the Martial Arts Games Grand Championships kicks off in Pattaya on Sunday.
Deputy Prime Minister Tanasak Patimapragorn will open the games at 10 a.m. June 14 at the Eastern National Indoor Sports Arena. Running through June 21 at the arena’s training center and Pattaya Boxing World, the contest will included competitions in taekwondo, karate, jujitsu, amateur Muay Thai boxing, and hapkido.
Pattaya set to host a week of top martial arts action from June 14-21.
Taveewat Kongsiriwattanakul, managing director of organizer Scoring Co., said the games aim to promote tourism in Pattaya and Thailand. In addition, it will offer an opportunity for Thai athletes to broaden their experience and develop skills to move forward on the world stage. About 10,000 fans are expected to follow the action at the two venues.
The rules and regulations used will be based on the ones employed by the International Sports Federation and Sport Association of Thailand to qualify as an international standard.
