16 golfers set out to take on the famous crocodile hole at Treasure Hill, the weather looked good and excitement was in the air. Rated quite low, the 16th hole claims plenty of victims as it’s tough to play, even if you are a big hitter of the ball.
We attacked the course from the white tees, the course was in great nick and the greens played true. Scores were on the higher side of average.
With only one division we all knew that it would be tight at the end of the day and Dave Maw got the nod for top spot from Stuart Mann on a count back decision. A further two shots behind we had zero-handicapper Pieter Zwart taking third.

A good size group of 28 golfers headed out to Greenwood to compete for December’s Monthly Mug, which of course is a stroke event and is kindly sponsored each month by Steve Younger.
The course was in pretty good shape, with a few wet patches here and there. A stiff breeze was constant throughout the 18 holes, and made club selection quite tricky.
Two divisions was required and the A Grade went to the inform Dave Maw whose strong all-round game saw him net an impressive net 71 off his 14-handicap. Dave won by a 3 shot margin from both Paul Taylor and “Buffalo” Bill Steinmann, both with net 74, Paul edging out Bill by the way of a count back. Fourth place was filled by Peter Zwart with net 75.
B Grade was won by Allan Ray (net 75), Andrew “Turtle” Allan, who states he is not a fan of Greenwood, may now change his mind after coming second with a net 77 and Jayson Schembri just edged out playing partner Volker Buley by way of a count back for third, both having Net 78. Volker might rue his 11 on the 16th, after a consistent round.
Thus the above results saw Dave Maw win his first, but maybe not his last, Growling Swan Monthly Mug.
Special mention to Nolan Wise who was very keen to talk about his 3-stroke par on one of the Par 3’s until someone quickly reminded him that we would rather talk through the 15 he had on the previous hole! Very entertaining for the caddies is our Nolan.
