The Tara Court Golf Society
Sunday, July 8, Green Valley –
Medal
It was monthly medal time again here for our game at Green Valley. We had two flights with the cut for the A flight coming in at thirteen. Not too hot today and as the course was in beautiful condition it was a perfect day for golf but despite this, except for one notable exception, the scoring wasn’t great.
Joe McArdle (H/cap 18) has been handing out the medal to one of his friends every month for some time now, but never managing to win one for himself. However, all that changed today and he came out a very clear winner by four shots by shooting an excellent net 68. Ken Hole (18) was the only other player to play to his handicap and he got second place in B flight with a net 72 and Donal McGuigan (17) took third with a net 73.
The scoring in the A flight wasn’t as good and we had two players with a net 77, Stuart Brown (8) winning the count-back here to get third place ahead of Shaun Merriman. Jerry Sweetnam (11) claimed second place with a net 76 and Paul Pavloff (5) was the winner with a net 75.
We had two ‘2’s today, coming from Bob St Aubin and Aonghus Gannon.
Tuesday, July 10, Mt. Shadow – Stableford
We had 12 players for today’s comp at one of our regular venues. Overcast conditions soon turned sunny & humid but the course was in great condition considering the overnight rain. The front-nine seemed to play harder as no-one played to handicap but once the turn had been made the scoring was a lot better. In first place with 39 points (23 on the back) was Craig Hitchens (12), one ahead of Russell Gilroy (16) in second on 38. Third place was filled by Ted Morris (20) with 35 points while fourth spot was decided on count-back, with Rik Evans (14) 33 points (back nine 20pts) taking the cash and edging Joe McArdle (18) off the podium after the latter could only muster 17 on the inward nine holes.
The 2’s took a hammering today with 5 players sharing the spoils: Shaun Merriman, Kevyn Wright, Russell Gilroy, Marc Brunner & Craig Hitchens.
Thursday, July 12, Burapha – Stableford
This was to be out last game at Burapha for a while and we played the A and B nines which were in magnificent condition.
Paul Bray (8) is back for a holiday and playing good golf and he won today with thirty seven points. Ken Hole (18) had a steady round and he came second with thirty four and Pete Seil (7) got the third and last podium place with thirty three.
Russell Gilroy had a very good payday as he had the only ‘2’ of the day.
