Only 12 golfers were brave enough to take on the challenge of Plutaluang G.C., or as we know it, ‘Big Navy’.  The course was in good nick with the greens being slow for the first hour, but as soon as the sun was out the putting surfaces did a 360.  There was a threat of rain but that passed as quick as it arrived.  Fairways had little run so we chose to invoke ‘pick, clean and place’ as the recent rains had left water on different parts of the course.

George McEwan took the game by the throat and came in a comfortable winner from his mate and sparring partner Graham Laurie, or as we know him ‘Patch’.  Patch had threatened that he was going to win money, and win he did with a second place, a near pin and a long putt.  Taking out third place was Steve Younger a couple of shots behind.

The fact that the field was small certainly had no reflection on the golf that was played today.

Not a large turnout on Thursday but all were anxious and optimistic golfers and ready for the day’s challenge at Crystal Bay.

The weather threatened early and with the deluge the previous night we were not sure as to what we would get.  We played C and B nines in that order from the white tees and the course was in good nick.  Fortunately the weather gods smiled down on us and kept the rain away.

Graham Laurie took the course on from the outset and was determined to go home a winner.  He did just that in his last outing with The Swan this trip and he mounted the podium as the day’s winner.  Taking second place, 2 points behind, was Alex Field and we then had to go to the count back system to separate third and fourth; Stu Rifkin getting the nod from the judges ahead of Chris Fletcher.
