PSC Golf from The Golf Club
Monday, Feb. 26, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford
1st Gary Emmett (15) 39pts
2nd Masao Ishikawa (18) 38pts
T3rd Bob Catlow (18) 37pts
T3rd Fred Birch (16) 37pts
It doesn’t get much better than this. A beautiful day on a beautiful golf course with your mates is hard to beat. We continued our lucky streak dodging the weather and all finished with no problems out there today.
Mr. Emmett showed the boys how it should be done and cleaned up with a nice 39 on the card. Ishi took sole second and Bob and Fred had to share third spot on the podium, but Fred had the advantage getting our Caddy Smile near pin!
Tuesday, Feb. 27, Khao Kheow A&B (white tees) – Monthly Medal
1st Ritchie McGhee (3) net 71
2nd Doc Beard (24) net 72
3rd Alan Rothwell (6) net 74
4th Masao Ishikawa (18) net 74
The stage was set for a dramatic February medal contest at everybody’s favourite track, Khao Kheow. Consistently in great condition, we give full credit to the grounds keeping staff who keep this course in tip top shape. We were a bit short of a full field as a few of the lads were on the injured list. It’s not really a big surprise since we all have added a few more candles to the cake over the years.
Everyone survived this round, and some rose to the top. Alan Rothwell had a strong showing with a 74 net that won over Ishi on the count-back. Doc Beard has been playing well recently but today was the bridesmaid with a reliable 72.
It was all Ritchie McGhee today as the affable Aussie, who plays off a mere 3 handicap, took today’s Antigua medal shirt as well as our Caddy Smile near pin. Even more impressive when it is done on the B-8 island green!
Thursday, March 1, Mt. Shadow (white tees) – Stableford
1st Sean Hastings (19) 34pts
2nd Ray Powell (16) 32pts
T3rd Alan Rothwell (5) 31pts
T3rd Steve Gamble (19) 31pts
We started our March schedule with a trip out to Mountain Shadow. The course was in decent shape but the greens were on the slow side on a course known for fast greens in the past.
The scores were shockingly low as 31 points got both Steve Gamble and Alan Rothwell on the podium for third. Englishman Ray Powell did one better and a mere 32 would get you to second place. Our winner, Mr. Sean Hastings also could not get to his handicap but a 34 was good enough for the win, and that’s all that counts!
Friday, March 2, Pattavia (white tees) – Stableford
1st Hidenori Morishima (20) 41pts
2nd Peter Thomas (21) 40pts
3rd Masao Ishikawa (17) 35pts
Pattavia was excellent today as a full sheet of players took to the hardest greens in Pattaya. Blake Hanna had no trouble hitting the near pin for the Caddy Smile near pin award.
Good scores were had by Ishi and a slimmed down Peter Thomas as well. Our Japanese visitor Hidenori Morishima hit a homer with 41 points, a great score on this tough track.
