2’s: Pat Carty and Russell Gilroy

Monthly Medal time again here at Green Valley and we were very lucky again today as although it looked very much like rain a few times with very dark clouds and some thunder and lightning we just got finished before it came. A very fast round today with no hold ups and our first two groups, which were three balls, got round in three hours. Our four balls got in around after three and a half hours.

The course was in excellent condition, but the same couldn’t be said for the scoring with none of our group being able to play to their handicaps. The best score we got was from Donal McGuigan who won his first Medal with a net seventy three.

The next four places had to be decided on countbacks, some of which went down to the last six holes as they all had net seventy fours. Kevin O’Sullivan came second, Stuart Brown came third, Peter Henshaw came fourth and Craig Hitchens got the fifth and last place for today.

Tuesday, Sept. 11, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

10 players today for a course we play regularly. On arrival we were the only group there and were away 20 minutes early. The fairways are in good condition and the rough fairly long. The greens would be the worst they have been for many years with the speed slower than anyone can remember. There were also quite a few patches under repair on the greens.

This still did not stop 2 players today who recorded the same scores and were only separated by a count back going to the last 6 holes. In 1st place was Ted Morris (20) on countback over Jerry Sweetnam (10), both with 39 points. Taking third was Kevyn Wright (11) with 34 points.

Joe McArdle had the only 2 for the day.

Thursday, Sept. 13, Burapha – Stableford

1st Pete Seil (7) 41pts

2nd Nik Evans (14) 33pts

3rd Lyle Blaw (12) 33pts

2’s: Jon Batty.

When we arrived at Burapha we started out on the B course and soon caught up with two five-balls and after that the play was painfully slow. A lady Thai marshal eventually came over to us and when we explained what was happening she kindly suggested that we move to the C nine and what a difference that made. After spending over two hours forty minutes on the first nine went round the back nine in under one hour forty five minutes, a difference of one full hour on the two nines.

Although the course was very wet and playing long and the bunkers almost unplayable after the torrential rain on the previous night, we still got one really excellent score today. Pete Seil went round in two over par gross to score forty one points. He came out a very clear winner by eight points. Our next best scores were thirty three points and here Nik Evans won the countback to come second. Lyle Blaw got the third and last place for today.
