The low handicappers showed their mettle on this Sunday’s Green Valley bash as only four players bettered their handicap, with three of those coming out of the premier flight. The hard luck story was Dave Buchanan, who always plays the course extremely well and had 37 points but lost on count back to monsieur Thierry Petrement. The count back had to go to the second level of the last six holes after the two players had identical back nine scoring.
Sunday’s B Flight winner – Mark West.
Paraic McManus, who always keeps it down the middle with his laser-like accuracy and then chips and putts it to death, was man of the match with a sizzling 40 points, plus a 2. The last flight spot went to a three-way count back, all with very good even par rounds, with Pattaya’s glamour girl Yui Bietry coming out on top after rendering the man from Co. Dublin, young Pat Regan, and Jon Haugen satangless at sea level.
The B Flighters showed less acumen as the 37 points of regular visitor Mark West was good for the first place. Everybody’s favourite nice guy, Irishman Christy ‘good’ Knight, took the silver with a steady even par round, while Bruce Walters took the bronze two shots adrift, leaving Don ‘the Ladies man’ Lehmer to gratefully accept the closing flight spot.
Along with Paraic and Yui, Andy Keller, Bruce Walters, Colin Davis and Tom Byrne shared the 2’s pot.
Apologies, in last week’s missive – I reported that Peter Kelly had won the very prestigious under18’s Orange Bowl Junior World Golf tournament held in the USA. On inspection of the entry form it was noted that Peter’s birth certificates had somehow got mixed up and of course it was Patrick who had won. I would like to offer my sincere apologies to all concerned.
