Travellers Rest Golf Group

Anyone would think that the Low Season had finished early this year with the marked increase in the numbers playing golf last week.  Lots of old faces put in a re-appearance and I am sure they were all made welcome by the TRGG.  With the increase in competition it certainly seems to have led to better scoring, some of the winning scores were phenomenal.

Monday, July 29,The Emerald – Stableford

On Monday a very good turnout headed off to Emerald and it appeared that a third of the field played to their handicap or better.  Simon Tapster hit the 40pt mark to take first place, with father to be Ted Senior finishing a point behind in the runners up spot.

1st Simon Talbot (15) 40pts

2nd Ted Senior (15) 39pts

3rd John Goodwin (25) 38pts

Wednesday, July 31, Burapha – Stableford

On Wednesday t was off to Burapha (A and B courses) and another good turnout again produced some sparkling golf and some very impressive scoring on a far from easy golf course.

Jim McNeill missed out on a top three place on Monday despite amassing 37 pts but he was determined not to miss out again and at Burapha he clocked up 41pts just to make certain he took home the prize money, and even then he only won by a single point from Jim Cooper who finished with 40pts.  Richard Talbot, who has had his handicap trimmed by three shots after his recent escapades, still managed a hugely respectable 39pts to finish third.

1st Jim McNeill (15) 41pts

2nd Jim Cooper (15) 40pts

3rd Richard Talbot (16) 39pts

Thursday, August 1, Phoenix – Stableford

On Thursday the biggest field of the week turned up to play our usual venue at Phoenix (Mountain and Lakes).  In fact so many turned up that they were split into two divisions: Div 1 (up to 14 handicap) and Div 2 (15 handicap and above).

It is good to report that it was a lady who led everybody home and I can just picture her delighted face as she collected her winnings.

Div 1

1st Mod Chaviraksa (12) 37pts

2nd Jim McNeill (13) 36pts

3rd Neil Bramley (9) 35pts
