The Tara Court Golf Society
Sunday, Dec. 30, Green Valley – Stableford
We had our last game of golf today for 2018 and appropriately it was here at Green Valley where we play the most golf every year. There was some very heavy rain the day before but the course was dry and in very good condition.
Again we had two flights with the cut for the A flight being lower today at fourteen. We also had some very good scores for our last game with Shaun Merriman (H/cap 13) winning the A flight with an excellent forty points, which will mean another reduction on his handicap. Jerry Sweetnam (10) also had a good end to the year and came second with thirty nine points while Stuart Brown (7) was third with thirty seven and Nick Caulfield (6) fourth on thirty six.
In the B flight Michael Healy (15), who was playing his last game for this trip, came out the winner with thirty eight points ahead of Evelyn McNamara (24) in second on thirty four. Ritchie Martin (30) came third with thirty one points and Peter Wallace (20) placed fourth with thirty, beating Pat Carty on countback.
Declan Kelly came out the biggest winner as he had the only ‘2’ of the day.
Tuesday, Jan. 1, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford
The first game of the new year took place at Pattaya Country Club where the course was in fair condition but some of the fairways were a bit patchy. There was also a fairly stiff breeze to make the course a little more difficult.
We had 2 divisions again today with the cut at 16 and under for the better players.
Shaun Merriman (13) continued his recent good form to shoot the best round with 38 points and win the A flight easily. Craig Hitchens (12) let it slip over the last 3 holes but still got second place on 34 points while third went to Jerry Sweetnam (10) with 33.
B flight was won by Joe MCardle (17) with 35 points, Russell Gilroy (17) was second on 34 and Pat Carty (23) rounded out the places with 31 points for third.
The par 3’s while not easy on this course were beaten today as we had five ‘2’s, going to George Cullen (x 2), Pat Carty, Sean McNamara and John Chambers.
Thursday, Jan. 3, Khao Kheow – Stableford
Today was a beautiful day for golf at Khao Kheow where we played the A and B nines in that order and off the longer yellow tees. Needless to say, the course won as none of our golfers managed to play to their handicaps.
Our best scores today came in the B flight where Pat Carty (23) won with thirty five points. Larry Eden (21) was playing his first game for this trip and he also had thirty five but he lost the countback to Pat and had to settle for second. We then had three players with thirty four points and here Joe Peters (24) had an excellent twenty-one on the back nine and edged out both Ritchie Martin and Avrill Wildsmith.
Ted Morris (17) came out on top in the A flight with thirty-three points while Nick Caulfield (6) took second on thirty-two, beating Sean McNamara (16) on countback.
We had four ‘2’s today, from Russell Gilroy, Ted Morris, Larry Eden and Sean Hallahan.
