PSC Golf from the Tropical Golf Group
Tuesday, Sept. 22, Mt. Shadow – Stableford
Well it was time for Mountain Shadow again, so we threw away all the worries of the possibility of rain and jumped into our chariots for the ride up to there. We arrived at the course in short order and were not surprised to see that it seemed really empty. I say not surprised as the Mountain Shadow staff had phoned me a couple of times in the days leading up to our visit to ensure we were actually going, this usually means that they had to plan to ensure they had enough caddies in for us. They did.
Monthly Mug winner Mikito Homma.
We were able to get to the tee early and as there was no one else in sight we set off at our own convenience. This ‘millionaire’s golf’ is pretty good really. The weather was cool at the start with a hint of rain in the air and we had the occasional bout of drizzle on the way around but nothing much. Although we called ‘lift, clean and place’, the ground only now and then was a problem and all in all it was a fine walk in the park.
So with fairways good, greens hard and fast and an empty course we had a good but tiring day as it did get a bit humid. Still, we battled on to finish in a fast time. On the way one of my playing partners was doing his best to have a great day, and so he did. This was the day to have a good score.
Back at BJ’s it was soon time for the results. The winner with 42 points was Mashi Kaneta, just another day on the course for Mashi and another fine round. In second was Graham Buckingham with 38 points and one point behind in third was John Pierrel. Bob Watson, playing off handicap 2, took fourth on 34 points and in fifth was Andre Van Dyk with 33.
Near Pins: Sunny, Dick Warberg, Derek Brook, Maurice Roberts
Friday, Sept. 25, Pattaya C.C. – Medal
It was time again for the Tropical golfers to do battle for the Monthly Mug competition, a fine container to hold beverages of all sorts, and highly coveted. A smaller than usual group had many thinking the odds might favor them this day and there was much optimism before the round.
Playing stroke-play at Pattaya Country Club off the white tees the groups were soon on their way. For a change there was little worry about the weather, and conditions were fine with partly cloudy and steady breeze.

PCC remains a work in progress. The back 9 greens are recently cored and sanded, but that’s the price of proper course maintenance. Final scores were higher than usual for this course, so everyone had their chance to with the mug… but who would it be?
Winning the September Monthly Mug was Mikito Homma (h/cap 18) with a fine net 68. Congratulations Mikito! Just missing out yet another first place but still in the winnings was Don Carmody (25) with net 69. Ever present Mashi Kaneta (15) was next with net 71 followed by colorful playing partner Walter Baechli (16) with net 72. For the rest… there is always next month.
Long Putts: Graham Buckingham, Tom Herrington, Barry Elphic, John Pierrel.
