Long Putts: Patrick Poussier, Martin Kempton.

Seventeen golfers took up the challenge today at Big Navy. The course was in good nick and offered plenty of run, bunkers were clean and raked and fairways tidy. The greens were found to be a little slow and somewhat difficult to master however.

Our five groups teed off about 10min earlier than our allotted tee time, and can say we were not held up at all. Seventeen golfers insured that we would play the single flight with all novelties in play, plus the Bonus double up on two of the Par-3’s.

Rod Weekes (a late inclusion) took the honours today. He and Keith Buchanan both returned with 38 points but it was Rod’s back nine that got him the nod on countback. Third place went to Martin Kempton, with the final place on the podium going to Steve Younger.

Thursday, March 21, Crystal Bay – Stableford

Crystal Bay was up to its usual standard and in really good nick (it appears they are pumping a lot of water on the track). Although the weather was a little on the warm side, playing conditions were not too bad, a slight breeze did prevail which certainly helped.

We attacked the course from the yellow tees and with the numbers the way they were we were to pay “first past the post” only with all novelties in play.

Sean Millar showed the way and his 44 points left no one in any doubt that he had a very good day.

Mashi Kaneta got three near pins with the other one going to Keith Buchanan. Mashi also bagged a long putt on the ninth hole while Dave Maw did likewise on the eighteenth.
