Monday, Dec. 8, The Emerald – Stableford

We teed off with eight groups 35 minutes ahead of schedule on Monday and there were a few comments after the round regarding the condition of a few holes and the pin placements.

The players’ displeasure was reflected in the scores coming in.  Ken Miller, playing off 24, recorded the best score of the day, winning division 2 (H/cap 19+) with 35 points.  Richard Owen was second two points behind Ken and Howard Stanley took third with 28.

Pete Sumner’s 34 points was enough to win division 1 (8-18), while Maurice Lots claimed second spot over  Paul Hartley and Tim Hake on a 20/17/16 back nine count back after they all came in with 31 points.

Near pins went to (Div. 1) Maurice Lots, Dennis Scougall and Pete Sumner, and (Div. 2) Ken Miller (3) and Matty Swire.

Maurice Lots birdied the 13th to claim the rollover ‘2’s pot in division 1 and Richard Owen did the same on the 7th to take the division 2 prize.

Wednesday, Dec. 10, Green Valley – Stableford

We were only allowed six tee times today so only two divisions with the equal cut made at 8-16 and 17+ in division 2.

Back from Kazakhstan, Tom Novak took the top podium position in division 2 with 38 points, while Matti Pihlajisto was second after beating Cliff Elliott 19/18 on the back nine, both coming in with 35 points each.

Chris Voller also scored 38 to win division 1, with Terry Madsen second three points behind and Lindsay Phillips in third with 33.

Near pins were claimed by (Div. 1) Mike Chatt, Kari Kuparinen and Jerry McCarthy (2), and (Div. 2) Gerry Cooke, Rod Howett and Tom Novak.

Kari Kuparinen birdied the eighth for the only ‘2’ in division 1 and there were none in the second flight.

Friday, Dec. 12, Eastern Star – Stableford

There were three divisions today with the cut at 8-14, 15-20 and 21+ and the condition of the course had improved considerably since our game here the previous week – much to everyone’s amazement.

There was a lot of run on the manicured fairways and this was reflected in the scores today as Tony Thorne won division 2 with 38 points, beating Paul Hartley 15/13 on the back six and in third place with 36 points was Colin Aspinall.

Max Wilson also scored 38 to win division 3, with Lars Svensson beating Rod Howett 21/17 on the back nine to take second place after they both came in with 35 points.

Bill Bertram’s 37 points won division 1, with Mikael Andersson second on 34 and Anthony Dillon in third with 32 after beating Nik Evans 16/15 on the back nine.

Near pins went to (Div. 1) Mikael Andersson, Nik Evans, Pete Sumner and Tony Thorne, and (Div. 2) Paul Hartley, Matti Philajisto, Bob Poole and Lars Svensson.

Pete Sumner had a birdie on the 3rd and Mikael Andersson the 13th to scoop the division 1 ‘2’s pool while Bob Poole on the 6th and Lars Svensson the 13th split the division 2 booty.
