The Backyard Golf Society
It was another enjoyable day for the Backyard golfers at Emerald last Friday, July 10. The weather was very kind and not too warm at all, just as well for some of our less than svelte members. The greens were in tip-top condition if a little slow and the fairways have recovered well from the “treatment” they received about 4 weeks ago.
The winner of the stableford today, shooting 1 over 73 gross off the stick, was the recently returned Mina Mills. His rather generous handicap aside, that is an excellent score around this tough layout. Thomas ‘the Tank Engine’ Bishop was eligible to play the near-pin but lost out to ‘Foos yer Doos’ Cowe, which just shows that anyone can win on the day.
Mina also won 9 skins on the day, with 5 to Russell “He’s a Victorian”, 3 to Irish John and 1 to that excellent stroke maker ‘Second-hand’ Bob. Bob and Poo resumed their romantic union around the course so all was good in the world again.
Down the road then for the traditional cooling lemonades and a free round from the winner!
