Travellers Rest Golf Group

Troubled times once again in Thailand; the last time I had to abide by a 10 p.m. curfew I think I was about fourteen years old.  Still life in Pattaya continues almost as normal and at the moment all is peaceful.  The sun still rises every morning, the tide still ebbs and flows and the TRGG still play golf competitions three times a week.  Long may it last!

Player of the week this week was undoubtedly Phil Mitchell, who of course shares his name with a famous hard man character in the long running BBC TV series Eastenders.

Ted Senior - winner at Burapha.Ted Senior – winner at Burapha.

In previous years whenever Phil won a golf competition with the TRGG I would make a joke about him threatening all the other competitors if they did not let him win.  This time I promised not to make a joke about him and Eastenders and he seemed to be pleased.  However, when I tried to take his photograph for the report he said if I did that he would have to ‘fill me in’, so I didn’t.  So you will all have to imagine what Phil looks like.

Monday, May 19, Greenwood A & B – Stableford

On Monday we all made the long trek to Greenwood and it was well worth it as the course was in magnificent condition.

Phil Mitchell bludgeoned his way (sorry Phil I couldn’t resist) to the top of the leaderboard shooting an admirable 36 points, the only guy to play to his handicap.  He was followed home by Jim Cleaver a shot behind and Big John O’Donaghue took third place.

1st Phil Mitchell (7) 36pts

2nd Jim Cleaver (10) 35pts

3rd John O’Donaghue (16) 32pts

Wednesday, May 21, Burapha B & D – Stableford

It was off to Burapha on Wednesday and it is a shame that we can never manage to play this course in the high season as it is always fully booked.  Many of our regular visitors in January and February may never have played here which is a great shame as it is a fantastic golf course.  Many major competitions are also played here throughout the year.

Ted Senior is an old hand around Burapha and he made his experience count on Wednesday by shooting the best score.  He was followed home by Mark Ward and Bob Cannon respectively.

1st Ted Senior (13) 34pts

2nd Mark Ward (19) 33pts

3rd Robert Cannon (17) 31pts

Friday, May 23, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

Mountain Shadow rounded off another week’s golf on Friday and Phil Mitchell did it again, winning for the second time and leaving all the rest quivering in his wake.  Ted Senior had a good day to take second place ahead of another old hand, Fergus Brennan; Father Ted winning on the count back.

1st Phil Mitchell (7) 34pts

2nd Ted Senior (13) 31pts

3rd Fergus Brennan (12) 31pts

Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and if you would like to play a round of golf with the TRGG, please phone Fergus Brennan on 086 056 7019 or pop into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee and add your name to the weekly lists which are posted on the notice board.
