The Tara Court Golf Society
Sunday, Dec. 10, Treasure Hills – Medal
As our regular Sunday venue Green Valley was closed for the weekend due to a big tournament, we decided to go to Treasure Hills because of the excellent value and because it is also a very good test of golf for this kind of competition.
None of us managed to play to our handicaps, which is not surprising as this is probably the most difficult course in the area. The greens were lightning fast and four-putts were very easy to do.
The best scoring came in the A flight where the cut came in at thirteen. Here we had two players with a net 74 and Phelim Moran (10) came out the victor on the count back to win his first medal ahead of Andy Featherstone (5) in second. Nick Caulfield (5) got the third place with a net 76 and Michael Williams (13) came fourth with a net 77.
In the B flight, Joe Peters (24) won with a net 78 and we then had two players with a net 82, John Connolly (25) winning the count back to come second and Craig Hitchens (14) third. Anthony Dillon (17) came fourth with a net 83.
Tuesday, Dec. 12,
Pattavia – Stableford
Twenty-nine players meant we had 2 divisions today on a course that was in great condition and the greens as tricky as always.
The highest scores came in the A flight where Dennis Lea (16) had a fine 38 points for first place. A close second was Phelim Moran (10) 37 points and 2 players were tied on 36 with Craig Hitchens(14) winning on count-back over Joe McArdle(16) for third. The fifth place went to Marc Brunner (9) on 35.
The B flight winner was Russell Gilroy (18) with 35 points, second went to Alec Smith (23) with 33 and taking third was Ken Hole (18) on 31. A count-back for 4th & 5th places went down to the 17th hole, with Derrick Kane (25) beating Ted Morris (18) after both tied on 30 points overall.
There were five ‘2’s today, coming from Craig Hitchens, Russell Gilroy, Andy Featherstone, Nick Caulfield & Marc Brunner.
Thursday, Dec. 14,
Greenwood – Stableford
The Greenwood course was in excellent condition but with a bit too much water on the fairways. This left what is a long course playing even longer and was reflected in the scores. We played the A and B nines and everyone played off the longer white tees today.
We had two flights with the cut coming in at twelve for the A flight and this is where we got the best scores of the day. We had three players with 36 points so a count-back decided that Jon Batty, who had only fourteen points on the front nine and an excellent twenty two on the back, was a very clear winner. Jon actually went round the back nine in one under par gross which was brilliant golf. In second place came Andy Featherstone, who also had the only ‘2’ of the day while Nick Caulfield got the third place.
In the B flight, Pat Carty was back to his winning ways and came first with 34 points. Michael Williams got second place with 33, beating Dan Hobbs on count back.
