‘Mr. Quiet’s big pay-day

The Backyard Golf Society

It was a very blustery morning that greeted the Backyard players at Emerald on Friday, Dec. 12.  The stiff breeze made many shots considerably harder on what is already a difficult enough course, with no green seeming to have more than a few square meters of flat ground and the flags/holes invariably on a slope.

The course manager not unexpectedly put a few (slow) groups out between us and the Beaver boys so we will be moving our tee-time up slightly to avoid the slow tedious rounds found on most courses at this time of year.

The big winner today was Mr. Quiet, winning not only the stableford competition but also the near-pin and the 2 rollovers from the previous 2 outings.  Imagine that, some 20 shots at a par 3 and no one could stay on the green.

Danny “The Coonass” Larsen won 4 skins, as did Kit “The Altrincham Alternate”.  There were 3 skins each to Mr. Quiet and “Who Brought Him”, 2 to Russell “He’s a Victorian” and singles to Irish John and “The Impregnator”, recently returned from another marriage ceremony in the Philippines (seems he was on course to match the record of our former member Don “The Divorcer”, but soon Don will be getting another notch on his belt up in Buriram.)

Down the road then for a few ales where “Coonass” dished up another gastronomic wonder from the bayou, something he has taken to doing regularly of late.  I guess learning to cook global dishes keeps him occupied on the ship these days.

It was welcome back to Kit and Michelle Chatt (after a few false starts due to a slight over-indulgence on a Thursday evening).  We have lost Mickey the Yak back to the Fens for a few weeks and also Golden Trowel’s Boyfriend (a much better name than Mr. Oddie) to Perth for the family Christmas celebrations.

“Foos yer Doos” was a late withdrawal on the Friday morning but “Diet Whiskey” said it was no surprise after receiving a text saying “ON IT” from Foos on the Thursday afternoon.  “ON IT” must be a quaint Jockonese term for “I am having a few quiet drinks with my beloved.”
