Phoenix Members Golf Society

If you haven’t been to Phoenix lately you may be confused when you walk out to the first tee.  Overnight the whole landscape around the Mountain 9th and the practice putting green has completely changed with all the huge bushes and shrubs disappearing and new light spread around the views.  What a good idea it was.

With news that Phoenix has now been bought by someone (or some company) we were all holding our breath for the AGM to see what surprises we members may be in for.  Whatever, we feel positive that it will be for the good, especially for the clubhouse and the course.

The changes in the course must have inspired Mrs. Browne’s boy, Patrick, who played in his golfer’s costume today, April 23, and returned a massive 41 points.  I personally played my best golf for some time and returned 39 points (thinking that would be good enough to win the day) only to be in second place.  Third place went to ‘Mr. Consistency’ Mukesh Thakker, again with a score worthy of winning, 38 points.

In fourth was Adriano Reale with 36 points.  This score was especially greeted with joy because under our rules no one can claim more than 28-handicap and Adriano’s handicap is 34, which would have meant a returned score of 42 points.  Tough at the top innit!

I think the reason the scoring was so good today was that due to the storms of late and then baking sun the green keeper has allowed the grass to grow a little longer on the greens so as to slow them down a little.

Near pins today went to Tim Mason, Jon Haugen & Patrick Browne with one not won which was entered into the lucky draw.  Those winners were Stuart Gordon, John Bartley, Colin Gregg and Sergio Poggi.  All lucky draw prizes are donated by our hosts The Relax Bar at Ban Amphur, and we thank them very much.

We play every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday plus monthly sea fishing trips, usually on a Saturday.  For further information please contact me (Mike) on 087 091 7565.
