Friday, Sept. 28, Phoenix – Team Stableford
Friday 28th September we had two teams fight it out against each other in the two best scores of each team to count. It makes a change from the all too regular individual games and ends up being a bit of fun. As a team it also means that if any one player is having a howler he can still contribute right up until the last hole.
So it was then that the team of Richard Baldwin, Granville Swanton and Mukesh Thakker triumphed quite convincingly to beat myself, Peter Rawling and Bill Hewitt.

Onto Tuesday and our sponsor was Richard Baldwin and his lovely lady of Ann’s Salon who provided a voucher for a manicure, hair cut, shave etc. and even a full Brazilian (for the men only!)

Almost a full house today and with the threat of rain and eventual downpour for 20 minutes we delayed our start. As the rain subsided a little we decided to chance it and within 2 to 3 holes the drizzle had stopped and the day turned out totally dry, however as it warmed up the humidity rose which was a little uncomfortable.
There must have been a hell of a lot of rain over the last few days – I have never seen the course quite as wet overall. Needless to say carts were confined to cart paths only. Good job most of our lot walk.
Only 5 players scored over 30 points today and our winner and recipient of the Ann’s Salon voucher was Mukesh Thakker, who scored a very good 38 points. Second was Bill Hewitt with 37 points, who knocked Patrick Browne down to third place with the same score but whose back nine was one shot worse. In fourth place was myself, Mike Gerrard, with 34 points, just beating John Bartley by virtue of a better back nine.
Near pin winners today were Mike Gerrard, Mukesh Thakker, Bong Thonsaphon & Patrick Browne..
The lucky draw winners were Joris Goetschalkx (again?), Wolfram Kruger, Arthur Busch & Richard Baldwin.
Next week we play for the KPK food services voucher under Stableford rules. Anyone interested in joining in the fun can call me on 087 091 7565. However, as the high season kicks in shortly we will limit our group to 6 groups only. We also do not allow any more than 28 handicap and this group is for men only!
From November onwards any guest of the members group will be able to enjoy a green fee of only 1,000 baht on Tuesday and Friday. If anyone is interested, we also run regular sea fishing trips.
