PSC golf from The Golf Club

Monday, August 5, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford

1st Geoff Doody (23) 39pts

2nd John Mulrooney (13) 38pts

3rd Muffy Kerr (12) 37pts

Yes, he has had an eagle, yes he has had a hole-in-one, but this is the first albatross John Mulrooney has achieved, and in fact, it is a first in the 6 year history of The Golf Club!

John has been killing his drives so at around 300 yards, those long holes are just about manageable.  His Driver-7 iron combination on the 14th par 5 told the tale with only 2 strokes needed on that hole.  What a fantastic achievement, but still not enough to win on the day.

Geoff Doody had one of his best rounds in a long time and his 39 points were enough to take victory.  Muffy “Flashpants”Kerr styled his way round the course with 37 points to take third place for our Canadian buddy.

Tuesday, August 6, Khao Kheow A & C (white tees) – Stableford

1st Phil Smedley (9) 33pts

2nd Ron Robertson (28) 32pts

3rd Peter Rogers (19) 30pts

No matter what you hear, you’ve got to go and play the course for yourself to determine an opinion for course condition.  Khao Kheow is in fine shape.  No, it’s not in a perfect state, but very playable and there were no complaints from the field.  We had been hearing how bad things were there but today’s play showed those were untrue and we had a great day of golf there.

On to the scoring, and it was our trusty Golf Captain Mr. Phil Smedley who ended up at the top of the heap.  The surprise was that he did it with only 33 points on the card, showing how hard this course can sometimes be.  Ron Robertson finally came good and took to the podium with second place honours, while Pet Rogers was in the neighbourhood with just 30 points for third.

Thursday, August 8, Plutaluang (white tees) – Stableford

T1st John Mulrooney (13) 39pts

T1st John Player (19) 39pts

3rd Sel Wegner (12) 37pts

It has been quite some time since we played the Navy course, but a welcome return at last.  The courses played were West and North and proved to be in very good condition.  In fact, the greens were just great, rolled very smooth but a tad bit on the slow side.  This is one of those great value courses we are lucky enough to have and frankly, we should play it more than we do.

John Mulrooney, fresh off his albatross on Monday, once again found the podium but this time taking first place.  Victory had to be shared with another John, and Mr. Player had a special day as well and also had 39 points.  Sel Wegner rounded off the top 3 golfers with a fine 37 on the day.  Thanks to all who joined us this week for some fantastic golf in Pattaya.
