Murray leads seven Top 20 stars to Thailand Open 2013

The Thailand Open gets underway on 21 September and Wimbledon champion and world #3 Andy Murray leads a field that boasts seven of the world’s top 20 players.

Joining Murray in Bangkok will be world #5 Czech Tomas Berdych, world #9 and defending champion Frenchman Richard Gasquet, #11 Milos Raonic of Canada, #16 Gilles Simon of France, #19 Tommy Robredo of Spain and Russian world #20 Mikhail Youzhny, as well as crowd favourites including Spaniard Feliciano Lopez and popular Finn Jarkko Nieminen.  In total, the tournament will feature 28 players in the singles draw and 16 teams in the doubles.

The tournament has also announced the recipients of the three wildcards into the Main Draw: the stars-of-tomorrow who have been awarded wildcards are Laslo Djere of Serbia, Sun-Young Jeong of the Republic of Korea and Thailand’s most exciting young player, Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul.

The 192cm tall Wishaya “Junior” is the hottest prospect among the young Thai men’s players.  He made his Davis Cup debut for Thailand in April this year and has already attracted the attention of international tennis insiders who are predicting a bright future for the big-hitting player.

In a first for the Thailand Open, host broadcaster True Visions has announced that it will be broadcasting the tournament in High Definition this year.  Seven days’ of action will be shown on the network in Thailand and international markets around the globe will be taking the HD broadcast.
