PSC Golf from The Outback Golf Bar
Monday, June 1, Burapha – Stableford
The five groups playing C and D at Burapha today played it at its best; the fairways and greens were hard and fast and the rough had been cut so it was not too tough.
There were very few golfers on the course but unfortunately we followed one group who played two balls off the black tees and another group who did the same off the silvers, which resulted in a slow 4 hours 45 min round in hot conditions.
(From left) Robbie Barnes, Andre, Aidan Murray, Brendan Cope and Greg Hirst.
Bob Lindborg continued his good form to win the second division with 35 points, from John O’Keefe and Barry Collis, both with 34, and another count back was needed to find the winner of the top division after Bob St Aubin and Bob Barnes had a great 38 point rounds, with Bob having the better back nine. Kim Danboise was third with 33.
John Cunningham (D8) and Rob Barnes (C5) both had twos.
Outback opinion: Weather – very hot; Check in – with a smile; Tee time – early; Fairways – hard; Rough – fair; Greens – hard and fast; Bunkers – varied; Value for money – very good; Pace of play – very slow; Drink stations open – all open; Restaurant – not visited

Tuesday, June 2, Laem Chabang – Stableford
Welcome to the newcomers today at Laem Chabang, namely Bill, Colin, Charlie, Peter, Jim and Philip making up a field of 14 players on the C & A nines. They were in for a shock no doubt as we started again on the very difficult C course, although we will have another word with the management for some kind of understanding that by starting the rounds on C, they are scaring away potential punters and members alike.
Mike Missler.
It has been some time since the winning score anywhere has been as low as 30 points, although it did take considerably longer than usual to determine the winner as a number or cards went astray, we believe left in the changing rooms. However, after a few phone-calls, Mike Missler was declared the winner with Bill Bockstahler and Colin Patterson sharing the runner-up spot, both on 29. Ron Dickie (28) was fourth and Bob Barnes fifth with 26.
The course was generally in good condition but the rough was tough as it seemingly had not been cut since the Pro tournament here.
No ‘2’s were recorded.
1st Mike Missler (05) 30pts
2nd Bill Bockstahler (16) 29pts
3rd Colin Patterson (21) 29pts
4th Ron Dickie (04) 28pts
5th Robert Barnes (10) 26pts
Wednesday, June 3, Khao Kheow – Stableford
An excellent turnout of at Khao Kheow on the B & C nines; 20 players is as good a field we’ve seen here for a while. Welcome back to Simon and Mark and also to Chaten Patel and Mike Omiya.
Scoring was pretty good, helped slightly by the slope and rating being applied and interestingly enough, the computerised buffer adjustment (CBA) was -2, meaning the course played two shots tough than handicap.
The winner on the day was Simon Spaulding, playing off scratch, with 35 points and then there were four players all tied up with 34 points – Mark Haffenden, Eddy Beilby, Bill Bockstahler and Phil Mitchell – well done to all of you.
There were three ‘2’s from Peter Gwizdek, Neil Hughes and Mark Haffenden.
1st Simon Spaulding (0) 35pts
2nd Mark Haffenden (1) 34pts
3rd Eddy Beilby (21) 34pts
4th Bill Bockstahler (19) 34pts
5th Phil Mitchell (05) 34pts
Friday, June 5, Green Valley – Medal
Our monthly medal, kindly sponsored Greg Hirst of the DeVere Group, was rather surreal at Green Valley as we had beautiful sunshine with rain coming down in buckets for about 15 minutes without a cloud in the sky, just as the last group teed off the 1st. And then the humidity bounced right off the ground and almost filled my glasses up with steam!
The strange weather didn’t deter many of our pundits and there were some really good scores as eleven players equalled or bettered their handicap; quite remarkable since it was a medal round with full stroke play calculation!
There were four players all on net 71’s, namely Freddy Starbeck, Eddy Beilby, Matt Hermann and Colin Paterson; Tim Knight was in fifth on 70; then came Waldo with a net 69 in fourth. Robbie Barnes (68) was surprised that he neither won net overall nor low gross, finishing third on net and second on gross with a great 79. Even more surprised was Brendan Cope who played the best round of his life to finish with a great 66 net but only to find himself in second place.
First time player with the Outback, Aidan Murray, produced some excellent scoring off his 22 handicap to finish first with a 65, but he can expect his handicap to come down a point or so. Well done Aidan!
Low gross winner was Andre Coetzee with 77, and we encourage more low handicappers to come take him on as it is pretty boring that he always seem to win the low gross and he needs a bit of competition to put him back in place.
Brendan Cope and Colin Patterson each recorded a 2.
1st Aidan Murray (22) net 65
2nd Brendan Cope (27) net 66
3rd Robert Barnes (11) net 68
4th Stephen Blazsanyik (18) net 69
5th Tim Knight (27) net 70
T6th Colin Patterson (22) net 71
T6th Mathias Hermann (12) net 71
T6th Eddy Beilby (18) net 71
T6th Freddy Starbeck (13) net 71
