It was a fine day for Thomas Myborg as he won the Lewiinski’s etched lead crystal whiskey glass and a bottle of Jameson’s Irish whiskey, emblematic of the Monthly Medal for March 2013.

As all our readers know, Thomas also gets a non-transferable invite to play in the year-end Gold Medal.  Every bit of Thomas’s net 67 effort was necessary as there were no less than two players within one stroke of him.  He needed to look no further than his own B Flight where second place was in the capable hands of Mikko ‘the flying fin’ Mutanen.  Mikko’s second place net 68 was two clear of Mickey ‘nine holes’ Beresford and Claude ‘try a bit’ Harder, with Mickey edging Claude for the remaining flight spot.

A Flight’s Matt Doyle of Co. Offaly gang infamy showed he was riding a purple patch as he made it two wins in as many games with a net 68.  Aussie ace Bob Watson took the silver with a solid net 71 as Aberdeen’s favourite son Mark Wood’s even par round closed the flight.  ‘Broad more’ Bob and Kevin ‘you know who’ were worth a mention as both carded net 73’s but that’s all.

Paul Shaw, Kevin McNtee, Bob Watson and Mikko Mutanen shared the 2’s pot.

Monday, March 11, Pattana B & C – Stableford

A Flight

1st Conner Doyle (11) 41pts

2nd Kevin McEntee (7) 36pts

3rd Kevin Rogers (10) 34pts

B Flight

1st Serge Straeten (16) 34pts

2nd Gerry Roche (18) 33pts

3rd Terry Mangan (15) 32pts

C Flight

1st Ed Delaney (26) 33pts

2nd Merle Humphreys (21) 32pts

3rd Freddy Starbeck (21) 32pts

Yet another 40 plus round as Conner Doyle romped away with A Flight and man of the match honours at the well-manicured Pattana course.  Conner was five shots clear of Kevin ‘you know who’ while Kevin had two shots in hand over third placed namesake Kevin Rogers.

B Flight was tight with just four shots separating first and fifth.  Old friend Serge Straeten sneaked home ahead of the in-form Irishman Gerry Roche.  Fellow Irishman Terry ‘pork chop’ Mangan was the bonze recipient.

In the battered and bruised C Flight, Ed Delaney showed that clean living was worth something as he bested the lads with a “you’ll never know how good it was” 33 points.  Merle Humphreys and Freddy Starbeck were only separated by a count back a point adrift, as they took second and third respectively.

John Heaney and Gordon Cameron split the 2’s pot.

Wednesday, March 13, Bangpra – Stableford

A Flight

1st Bob Watson (3) 38pts

2nd Dave Shelton (7) 35pts

3rd Dave Palmer (5) 35pts

B Flight

1st Mikko Mutanen (16) 35pts

2nd Tony Glidden (13) 35pts

3rd Matt Cronin (14) 34pts

C Flight

1st (18) Walter Beachli (18) 36pts

2nd Gerry Roche (18) 33pts

3rd John Heaney (19) 33pts

Bob Watson, who was edged in the Sunday Monthly Medal, was quick to take revenge as he shot an excellent best on the day 38 points on the lighting and tricky greens of Bangpra and continued a successful run on the society’s financial reserves.  Bob’s fine score was three shots clear of pay window regulars Dave Shelton and Dave Palmer, the scales tipping in Dave’s favour – Mr. Shelton that is.

Count backs abounded in B Flight with Mikko Mutanen sitting atop the podium with a 35 point count back victory over Tony Glidden.  Matt Cronin did the same to Eddy ‘the Eagle’ and unfortunately there was no podium spot for Eddy.

The world famous Walter Beachli was holding the biggest bag of loot on the C Flight podium as his very creditable even par round was three ahead of the duo of Irish stars Gerry Roche and John Heaney.  The mathematics on Gerry’s card were more favorable than those of John.

Dave Palmer, Pat Regan and Gerry Roche received a equal portion of the 2’s pot.

Friday, March 15, Eastern Star – Stableford

A Flight

1st Conner Doyle (11) 35pts

2nd Danny Lawson (12) 33pts

3rd Matt Doyle (12) 32pts

B Flight

1st Terry Mangan (15) 39pts

2nd Mikko Mutanen (16) 37pts

3rd Colin Davis (16) 33pts

C Flight

1st Merle Humphreys (21) 50pts

2nd Freddy Starbeck (21) 46pts

3rd Stuart Brown (26) 40pts

If it wasn’t the week of the Monthly Medal surely the star of today would have had a shot at the title slot with this magnificent 50 points.  Before you call in on the bandit hot line it should be noted the Merle Humphrey has played with the society many times over the past years and as handicap of 21, he will be receiving his new one shortly, so let’s hope he continues to play to this high standard as his new handicap will require it.

Fellow C Flighters Mikko Mutanen, with an amazing 46 points, and Stuart Brown, 40 points, must have thought the day was theirs, that was until they entered the club house.

Irishman Terry ‘Tea bone steak’ Mangan broke from the pack to take B Flight, carding a very creditable 39 points followed by the man on form Mikko Mutanen, who was two shots back.  The Donkey and Michael Goggin were tied on 33 points but the Donkey as been in this situation too many times to give anything away.

The senior circuit was very quiet as Conner Doyle took the top place with 35 points.  Danny Lawson on 33 points edged Co. Offaly’s Matt Doyle by a single digit for the silver.

Jean LaRoche meanwhile was the sole heir to the 2’s pot.
