1st Mike Newbert (13) 36pts

T2nd Henry O’Brien (20) 33pts

T2nd Gregg Morris (15) 33pts

Can you believe it is October already?  Here we go on our last month of super discounts known as “Sports Days” here in Pattaya and the deals last until the 31st of October.  Now is the time to squeeze in as many rounds as you can and save a ton!  We would like to extend our thanks to the Eastern Seaboard Golf Managers Association for offering us these special prices all summer long for the golf courses in Chonburi and Rayong.

If you haven’t already done so, this would be a good time to renew, or join, the Pattaya Sports Club for discounts now and in the coming high season.  That is the best way to also save a ton for the next 6 months!

Mike “The Montauk Mauler” Newbert made it a double as he won today, just as he did last week, to continue his love affair with Green Valley.  Mike was 2 strokes off his last week’s 38 but was the only golfer to shoot their handicap, thus winning by 3 shots.  Well played Michael and good job once again!

That legendary Scottish golfer Henry O’Brien staggered home with 33 Stableford points to tie with Gregg Morris for second place honours on another great outing run by Captain Phil Smedley.

Wednesday, Oct. 3, Royal Lakeside (White tees) – Stableford

1st Mike Newbert (13) 38pts

2nd Michael Hastie (15) 34pts

3rd Phil Smedley (12) 31pts

Sure, it is a bit of a drive to get out here.  It usually takes us about an hour for the trip to Royal Lakeside, but it is well worth the effort.  The course was still in magnificent condition despite all the recent rains and it is an easy walking track.  The fairways had a spongy dampness underfoot but very playable for this time of year and we all agreed it was a good choice for a comp.

He did it again, and I am sounding like a broken record, but Mike Newbert continues his fine form with another win to top the podium with a 38 point round here.  What is very impressive is that this is Mike’s first round at Royal Lakeside so he is truly in his purple patch.

It’s a funny old game, and most times there is neither rhyme nor reason for playing well or playing poorly, as we witnessed 2 weeks back at the Ryder Cup.  Such is the frustration we put ourselves through to knock a little white ball into a 4¼ inch hole.

Michael Hastie is over here from Australia and has been making many new friends at TGC for the last 10 days.  Today he came good and took second place honours with a 34-point round whilst Captain Phil got his foot in the door with only 31 points!  All that seemed like a perfectly good excuse for a few laughs, a few beers and a big Ribeye steak from the grill.

Friday, Oct. 5, Phoenix (White tees) – Stableford

1st Ben Denham (4) 33pts

2nd Henry O’Brien (20) 32pts

3rd Phil Smedley (12) 31pts

There was a big storm brewing that was making its way over from Vietnam, the weather forecasters told us.  What the heck, we said and went out for a great day of golf.  The decision was correct and we ended up at Phoenix after we had heard earlier in the week that Emerald, our scheduled course, was having maintenance issues.

Phoenix was in lovely shape and we had not a drop of rain on the day.  Ben Denham took first, Henry ‘O’ scooped second and Captain Phil once again needed only 31 points to steal third.

Thanks for joining us for another great week of quality golf here at The Golf Club, the home of golf in Pattaya.
