The raider from the ‘dark side’, Nick ‘Elvis’ Shaw, rode off into the northern sunset (?) with the monthly medal for March, although the battle was well contested to the very end with Nick having to rely on count back to edge Scotland’s Lawrie McBride.
Nick Shaw celebrates his medal win.
Nick will join 10 other qualifiers to compete for the 2015 gold medal later in the year and he took home the engraved lead crystal goblet and a bottle of Jameson’s Irish whiskey for his efforts. As an additional bonus he will also have his name etched on to the Lewiinski’s wall of shame.
Pat Regan and Aussie star Bob Watson both netted under par returns and joined the qualifiers on the A Flight podium.
Mickey ‘nine holes’ Beresford followed Nick up the B Flight podium just a shot adrift as Claude Harder rounded out the flight with a steady even par score.
C Flight was led by Aiden Murray with net 73 while the minor flight places were decided on count back as both Peter Terry and Marcus Earp were tied on net 74; after the divots had landed it was Peter who took the flight silver.
Lawrie McBride and Pat Regan recorded Eagle ‘2’s and shared the 2’s pot with four other players.

3rd Joe Tynan (25) 31pts
Bangpra and the resident monkeys welcomed the Lewiinski’s mob to a stableford comp on Tuesday. The course was in excellent condition with super slick greens that would need a bit of magic to garner a decent card. This was supplied by Richard Fearby, who stroked his ball onto the greens, then caressed it into the hole like a pro.
Richard’s total was the lowest on the day, a magical 41 points, to take the senior flight and the day’s honours. ‘Nice Guy’ Thierry Petrement lifted the silver as Richard’s playing partner Paul Shaw closed the flight with a steady even par round.
B Flight was the domain of Pierre ‘the magician’ Bietry with a rock solid 38 points. Pierre was trailed in by Mike ‘the Welsh Dragon’ Jeffreys and Thomas Kelly in one stroke increments.
Barry Oats led C Flight with 35 points and he was four clear of Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw in second as smoking Joe Tynan rounded out the flight with 30.
Welshman Phil Davies was the sole heir to a wonderful 2’s pot.
Wednesday, March 11, Silky Oak – Stableford
1st Trevor Gough (23) 35pts
2nd Colin Smith (12) 34pts
A small group chose to brave the heat and humid conditions at the well-maintained Silky Oak on Wednesday. Trevor Gough let neither deter him from his game as he was best on the day with a steady 35 points.
Colin Smith and Merle Humphreys were only separated by count back, both a stroke in arrears of Trevor, with Colin edging Merle for the silver.
Colin was also the only player to register a ‘2’.
Thursday, March 12, Crystal Bay – Stableford

1st John Stewart (8) 44pts
2nd Asgar Levin (16) 43pts
3rd Andrew Byrne (11) 42pts
B Flight
1st Peter Henshaw (22) 43pts
2nd Peter Terry (19) 39pts
3rd Greg Williams (21) 38pts
Thursday’s fixture saw the society venture to the well-maintained Crystal Bay where John Stewart adapted to the course best as he fired a faultless 44 points to take the man of the match and top rung in A Flight. Mind you, he needed every one of them as Asgar Levin was just a stroke back for the silver and he in turn was a shot clear of Co. Laois man Andy Byrne.
B Flight was not to be outdone as they had a splendid 43-pointer from Peter ‘the silver surfer Henshaw. Peter was four clear of Peter Terry and yet another clear of Greg Williams.
The ‘2’s pot was split between two Irishmen and good mates, Tom ‘the Irish rover’ Gorey and Christy ‘good’ Knight.

2nd Maurice Roberts (12) 36 pts
3rd Barry Oats (24) 35 pts
The field is always a bit more modest on the second day of the society’s back-to-back fixtures and this Friday was no exception. Chris Reed led the field with a level to handicap showing as he edged Maurice Roberts on count back. Barry Oats with a steady 35 points rounded out the flight.
