Monday, Dec. 21, Burapha C & D – Stableford

Reports from our players indicated that the greens today were the fastest that they had seen at Burapha in a long time.  As a result, scoring wasn’t all that great, except for our winner who is used to playing the Siam courses which can be brutally fast at times.  All and all, a good challenge and few complaints about the condition of the course was heard.

In fifth place, with 33 points playing off a 15-handicap, was Bob Finley while in fourth was Peter Nixon on 34 points, losing on a count back to his playing partner Geoff Stimpson.  With this result Peter did however secure his spot as 2015 Order of Merit Champion at the Outback.  Well done!  Second spot went to regular podium star Sugar Ray Handford who scored 35 points but streaking miles ahead was John O’Keefe who made the best of his superior putting skills to record a brilliant 41 points.

John also recorded a ‘2’ on hole 5, and the only other ‘2’ of the day came from Dennis Pelly on hole 17.

1st John O’ Keefe (18) 41 pts

2nd Sugar Ray Handford (18) 35 pts

3rd Geoff Stimpson (7) 34 pts

4th Peter C Nixon (11) 34 pts

Wednesday, Dec. 23, Parichat – Scramble

We celebrated our year end function and 2015 Order of Merit winner announcement with a fun filled day at Parichat.  Welcoming all players at the course with free beer, John Lawton and Fidge did an excellent job in getting our 70 players organized for the afternoon shotgun start for this scramble event.

Parichat must be one of the most difficult courses in Pattaya, and it is a course that many despise due to the difficulty of navigating this very short course.  I was however surprised by how many players did actually enjoy the format and the course, and we will have a monthly scramble going forward here on the last Wednesday of the month to have a bit of fun.

After golf, which finished in a heavy shower and necessitated us moving the band from the lawn to an undercover position for our evening event, everyone gathered at the Outback where a buffet of great food was served.  Then the real fun began as we were thoroughly entertained by the great music of the Band of Smiles with Rick and Harpic Bryant.

Peter Nixon was crowned as winner of the Order of Merit crystal trophy for 2015, much to his delight.  It is a tradition that will be continued in 2016 with the best 30 stableford scores of the year being counted.  Winners of the day in the scramble format were Freddy Starbeck and the French Musketeers, Thierry Temieme and Gerard Lambert, scoring a brilliant 54.9 net (62 gross).

Another important element of the evening was the raffle draw, where we gave away THB 15,000 worth of prizes for the charity collection for the Baan Jing Jai orphanage.
