‘Nong Dao’ takes silver at World Youth Windsurfing Championships

Local junior female windsurfer Siriporn Kaewduangngak or “Nong Dao” came in second place and took the silver medal at the World Youth Windsurfing Championships (maximum 18-years of age) held in Zadar, Croatia last month, and in the process booked her ticket on the plane to compete in the Pre-Olympics in Perth, Australia at the end of the year.

On July 21, at Khrua Windsurfing on Jomtien Beach, Itthipol Khunplome, Mayor of Pattaya City and acting President of the Thailand Windsurfing Association, headed a welcome home ceremony for the junior windsurfer who was presented with a scholarship grant of 100,000 baht from the Sports Authority of Thailand to help with her training expenses and studies.

Training grants were also given to other junior windsurfers including Nakaret Wantana who placed 8th in the youth championships in Croatia.

Currently two of Thailand’s brightest windsurfing prospects, Ek Bunsawat and Napalai Thansai, are competing in an Olympic test event in London, England as preparation for the Summer Games next August.
